Senior Backend Engineer

About the Role

TawanTech is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join their team in Riyadh, Riyadh Province. This full-time role involves designing, developing, and optimizing complex backend systems and services, with a focus on ensuring scalability, security, performance, and reliability. The Senior Backend Engineer will also contribute to technical standards and engineering improvements within the organization.

Role Purpose

The primary purpose of this position is to lead the development and enhancement of backend systems. This includes taking ownership of complex features from initial technical design through to production deployment, ensuring that all solutions meet rigorous standards for security, performance, availability, and maintainability.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable backend services and APIs using Java and Spring Boot within a microservices architecture.
• Own the end-to-end delivery of complex features, from technical design to production implementation.
• Design and optimize database interactions, integrations, and inter-service communication.
• Build and operate event-driven flows utilizing Kafka and enterprise messaging systems.
• Ensure that all developed solutions comply with security, performance, availability, and maintainability requirements.
• Apply secure coding practices, including robust authentication, authorization, encryption, and sensitive data handling.
• Conduct code reviews and uphold engineering standards across the development squad.
• Troubleshoot complex production issues and implement durable fixes.
• Contribute to technical design decisions and overall application architecture.
• Improve CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, deployment processes, and observability on OpenShift/Kubernetes platforms.
• Identify technical debt and drive initiatives to improve design and code quality.
• Mentor junior engineers and facilitate knowledge sharing within the chapter.

Experience and Qualifications

Candidates should possess 2-5 years of relevant experience in backend engineering. Specific qualifications and technical proficiencies will be assessed during the application process.
