About the Role

Mace is seeking a Senior Environmental Manager (Island & Marine) to join their team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time, site-based role involves leading environmental management activities for a major entertainment and luxury hospitality project, focusing on complex marine and island development environments. The successful candidate will provide environmental leadership throughout the construction phase, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, project requirements, and international best practice standards.

Project Context

This project involves extensive infrastructure and built assets, delivered through a construction management approach. It requires collaboration with architects and global consultants. The role specifically demands a hands-on environmental professional with significant experience managing environmental risks associated with marine, coastal, dredging, reclamation, waterfront, and island developments, working closely with contractors, consultants, authorities, and project stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the implementation of the project's environmental strategy, management plans, and compliance requirements.
  • Provide environmental oversight across marine, coastal, island, infrastructure, and construction activities.
  • Monitor contractor environmental performance and ensure compliance with environmental permits, approvals, and regulatory obligations.
  • Review and approve environmental management plans, construction environmental plans, method statements, and monitoring programmes.
  • Manage environmental risks associated with marine ecosystems, coastal habitats, dredging, reclamation, and nearshore construction activities.
  • Conduct regular environmental inspections, audits, and site assessments to ensure compliance with project standards.
  • Supervise investigations into environmental incidents, non-conformances, and complaints, ensuring timely corrective actions.
  • Coordinate environmental monitoring programmes, including marine water quality, sediment control, ecology, and biodiversity requirements.
  • Engage with environmental authorities and regulatory agencies on permitting, reporting, and compliance matters.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to project teams, contractors, and consultants on environmental issues and best practices.
  • Promote environmental awareness and sustainability initiatives across all aspects of project delivery.
  • Monitor and report environmental performance, risks, and compliance status to senior project leadership.
  • Support the management of stakeholder concerns relating to environmental impacts and mitigation measures.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and environmental performance enhancements across the project.
  • Ensure environmental requirements are fully integrated into construction planning, delivery, and operational readiness activities.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Over 10 years of experience in environmental management.
  • Experience working on high-value projects/programmes for a project management consultancy business.
  • Ability to meet necessary visa criteria for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
