Upper Elementary School Homeroom Teacher

About the Role

The American International School Riyadh is seeking a licensed, full-time Upper Elementary School Homeroom Teacher for the 2027-2028 school year. This role is based in Riyadh and requires 2-5 years of experience. The purpose of this position is to cultivate inquisitive, independent, and resilient learners who inspire positive change in their communities.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a continuous learner and a model of AIS-R’s Core Values, committed to the AIS-R Mission and the Profile of an Exemplary Educator.
• Understand and implement AIS-R’s Core Competencies for Faculty.
• Stay updated with AIS-R policies and expectations, fulfilling all duties outlined in the Faculty/Staff Handbook.
• Meet professional duties effectively and adhere to the AIS-R Code of Conduct, professional dress code, and Child Safeguarding agreements.
• Understand and implement student safeguarding practices, including mandatory reporting and participation in inquiries.
• Support the school in creating a positive, nurturing, and engaging environment that addresses individual student needs.
• Design and deliver lessons, content, and materials in line with AIS-R’s standard curriculums and teaching standards, utilizing various learning mediums.
• Demonstrate knowledge of student strengths, interests, motivations, and abilities to plan coherent instruction.
• Maintain effective classroom control, organization, and management.
• Manage student behavior, keep records, and monitor progress.
• Create a caring, respectful, student-centered environment conducive to developmentally appropriate learning.
• Plan and prepare coherent learning plans with clearly defined outcomes aligned with subject level standards and benchmarks using the Understanding by Design framework.
• Systematically gather, analyze, and utilize relevant data to measure and facilitate student academic progress.
• Clearly communicate learning targets and assessment criteria.
• Prioritize instructional strategies aligned with AIS-R’s Learning Principles.
• Assess student learning with clear criteria aligned with learning goals.
• Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and community members to advance the school's mission and enhance student learning.
• Organize, plan, and run clubs/after-school activities as part of AIS-R’s co-curricular program.
• Engage in the school’s professional development program and professional growth & evaluation process.
• Partner with families through ongoing communication, conferences, and accurate reporting of student progress.
• Honor AIS-R policies and procedures and maintain a high standard of personal conduct.

Qualifications and Requirements

• A valid teaching license.
• 2-5 years of relevant teaching experience.
• Demonstrated passion for teaching and learning.
• An attitude of respect, open-mindedness, adaptability, resilience, and commitment to life-long learning and continual professional development.

Terms of Employment

This is a full-time position with a contract term of 190 days. Compensation will be determined based on the established Faculty salary schedule. Contractual hours are 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, extending to 5:00 pm on Tuesdays. Faculty are expected to fulfill duties beyond the school day, including commitments to after-school activities (ASAs) and after-school learning (ASL).

Professional Growth and Evaluation

Performance will be appraised through the AIS-R Professional Growth and Evaluation framework in accordance with school policy by the designated Supervisor.
