About the Role and Company

Airbus *** is seeking an IT Network Engineer to join its IT Team. This full-time role is based in the United States, with potential locations in Mobile, AL; Grand Prairie, TX; or Wichita, KS. The position specifically supports the Airbus Mobile (AL) USA site and requires 5-10 years of relevant experience. The successful candidate will be responsible for the support, availability, and performance of critical data networks, including WAN, LAN, Industrial & Wireless, Network Security, and Cabling.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage incidents, problems, and requests requiring L3 support for network infrastructure.
  • Proactively propose and implement improvements to increase Network Infrastructure performance.
  • Act as a technical consulting interface for internal customers in North America and technical teams in Europe.
  • Serve as the primary technical focal point for all regional LAN, Network Security, and wireless (Aruba) related aspects.
  • Function as the expert for Airbus Helicopter North America networks in the region.
  • Provide day-to-day support and management for internal and external partners, including operations responsibility, long-term planning, proactive management, and input towards projects and data strategy.
  • Support technical suppliers as an L3 engineer for incident resolution when needed.
  • Develop and execute test plans to check IT infrastructure and systems technical performance, report on findings, and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Provide architectural and technical consulting expertise, direction, and assistance to systems analysts, IT engineers, and other systems architects.
  • Document and develop in-depth knowledge of the company's existing IT architecture/infrastructure and technology portfolio regarding LAN, WAN, Network Security, Industrial & Wireless, and cabling standards.
  • Support and manage an IT infrastructure capacity plan in collaboration with the Network Product Manager.
  • Develop, document, communicate, and enforce a Network technology standards policy for North America.
  • Conduct research on emerging network technologies in support of infrastructure development efforts, and recommend technologies that will increase cost-effectiveness and infrastructure flexibility.
  • Develop, document, make recommendations, and communicate plans for investing in IT infrastructure, including analysis of cost reduction opportunities.
  • Design, develop, and oversee the implementation of end-to-end IT integrated systems.

Work Environment and Travel

This position requires approximately 80% onsite presence. Domestic and international travel up to 10% is involved.

Physical Requirements

The role involves various physical activities including daily requirements for vision (reading computer screens, documents), hearing (conversations, safety warnings), speaking, and operating office and personal electronic equipment, and some production tools. Occasional carrying and lifting of documents, tools, and electronic equipment up to 30lbs (14kgs) is required, with potential for lifting up to 50lbs (23kgs) several times a month. The position also involves sitting for extended periods, occasional squatting/kneeling, standing for discussions, and walking through office and production areas including uneven surfaces. Ability to travel independently and at short notice is essential. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, respirators/masks, and/or protective gloves may be required by site and/or customer site, with steel-toed shoes mandatory for all shop floor visits.
