About the Role

Guardian Industries is strengthening its Glass Technology and Development (GTD) capability in the Middle East. We are seeking a Senior Research and Development Scientist to join our team in Al Jubail, Al Aziziyah District, Eastern, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role focuses on developing new products and technologies within architectural glass applications.

Role Context and Impact

The selected candidate will contribute to innovations in large area sputter coating products and technologies. These developments aim to reduce energy consumption, enhance building performance, and support sustainable design in architectural glass. The Research & Development team is a global, collaborative group focused on advancing glass coating technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and launch new thin film technologies and products globally.
  • Create and manage development plans, ensuring alignment with all stakeholders.
  • Lead change management processes during new product or technology launches.
  • Share knowledge and build capabilities across various teams.
  • Act as a technical expert to support production teams and resolve issues.
  • Identify external best practices and implement improvements to processes.
  • Apply structured development approaches, such as stage gate methodology.
  • Enhance technical understanding of products and processes.
  • Present ideas and plans clearly to different stakeholders.
  • Work effectively within global, cross-functional, and multicultural teams.
  • Collaborate closely with operations on product launch and transfer initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Materials Science, Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in thin film technology, specifically vacuum sputtering.
  • Experience in experimentation and statistical analysis.
  • Previous experience leading scientists or technicians.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Master’s or PhD in a relevant field.
  • Experience in thin film technologies, particularly magnetron sputtering.
  • Knowledge of process improvement principles (stability, quality, yield, throughput).
  • Experience with coating and characterization tools (*, Zeiss, RGA, plasma systems).
  • Experience with QC lab equipment and coating testing methods.
  • Knowledge of failure analysis and process improvement methods (FMEA).
  • Experience working on complex technical problems and developing solutions.
  • Understanding of structured product/process development frameworks.
  • Experience with thin film modeling and optical simulation tools.
