About the Role

GE Vernova is seeking a Lead Engineer - Cyber Security to join its team in Al Khobar, Eastern Province, Saudi Arabia. This full-time position is integral to executing substation automation system engineering activities with a focus on cyber security. The role encompasses comprehensive responsibility for cyber security design, configuration, implementation, assurance, and training within the cluster. The Lead Engineer will liaise with tendering (ITO) and execution (OTR) teams to propose cyber security solutions, prepare documentation, and conduct Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) across all GA business product lines, including PAC, CIC, and M&D.

Role Responsibilities

  • Estimate man-days for design activities during the Inquiry to Order (ITO) stage and control man-days during the Order to Remittance (OTR) stage.
  • Collaborate with the ITO team on new opportunities, including site surveys, deal estimations, and prequalification support.
  • Review RFQs impacting Cyber Security, providing recommendations and clarifications in coordination with relevant GE teams.
  • Propose cyber security solutions to customers, ensuring alignment with specifications and GE capabilities, and compatibility with core systems.
  • Create architecture references for ITO proposals requiring Cyber Security and develop the Security Assurance Plan (SAP) for applicable projects.
  • Develop standardized Bill of Materials (BOM) templates and cost estimation templates for cyber security solutions.
  • Develop Deliverable Outline Requirements (DOR) for cybersecurity project execution.
  • Ensure EHS compliance and implement the Zero Deviation Plan.
  • Execute DCS Engineering activities adhering to quality, cost, and time delivery criteria.
  • Liaise with multidisciplinary teams to specify and design projects, meeting technical standards.
  • Prepare production documentation for panel integration and ensure on-time delivery of high-quality designs.
  • Participate in cost reduction initiatives through standardization and innovation.
  • Approve technical evaluations of supplier offers and support Procurement.
  • Support site organization during preparation and commissioning.
  • Prepare for and conduct internal validation and customer FAT.
  • Participate in project multidisciplinary design reviews.
  • Manage and resolve design issues, validating designs through customer acceptance.
  • Analyze customer technical requirements, prepare clause-by-clause analysis, and manage potential exceptions.
  • Communicate effectively with customers to ensure excellent service.
  • Create the Functional Design Specification (FDS) and other documents for the cyber security system.
  • Conduct FAT and SAT for Cyber Security, detailing system security testing procedures.
  • Configure cyber security devices including switches, servers, jump boxes, firewalls, and Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS).
  • Develop and execute cyber security assurance and maintenance plans for the installed base.
  • Align with core system teams to implement and test cybersecurity during internal validation.
  • Collaborate with the R&D team to address DCS issues and provide feedback to product management.
  • Share best practices and lessons learned, updating technical cyber security architecture based on evolving technologies.
  • Train GE resources and develop the cyber security team.
  • Pre-qualify GE as a preferred cyber security solution supplier/vendor.
  • Oversee Cyber Security CAPEX deployment in the SABAP cluster.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in substation automation projects and Operational Technology (OT) security.
  • Proven experience with GE DS Agile, GPG, or similar Substation Automation Systems (SAS).
  • Demonstrated experience with security designs, architectures, and best practices in network topology for OT environments.
  • Ability to prepare design documents and configuration/databases for substation automation projects and conduct FAT.
  • Good experience with substation automation communication protocols, including IEC61850, IEC-101, and IEC104.
  • Experience with security technologies such as LDAP, RADIUS, GPO, SSH, SFTP, HTTPS, SYSLOG, Encryption, TLS, DMZ, and Virtualization.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and across functions in a worldwide environment.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time for missions, tender/project support, customer meetings, and marketing efforts.

Work Location and Experience

This is a full-time position based in Al Khobar, Eastern Province, Saudi Arabia. The role requires 5-10 years of relevant experience. Relocation assistance is not provided for this position.
