About the Role
GE Vernova is seeking a Substation Automation Commissioning Specialist to join our team in Al Khobar, Eastern region. This full-time role involves performing essential services and maintenance activities on both customer and GE Vernova sites. The specialist will contribute to the testing, commissioning, maintaining, repairing, and refurbishing of sold or existing products, encompassing all types of maintenance service, managing maintenance facilities, and field services engineering. The successful candidate will be accountable for the quality of their work, operating within a defined framework to meet project targets for Safety, Quality, Cost, and Delivery, in line with contractual technical specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform all activities related to the testing and validation of equipment, facilities, or plants according to design objectives and operational specifications, including performance services and tests.
- Develop conceptual knowledge within the professional discipline, potentially including support roles with specialized expertise or broad technical knowledge.
- Apply general business knowledge gained through education or prior experience.
- Understand how the work of the immediate team contributes to the broader area.
- Resolve issues using established procedures, consulting supervisors for matters outside defined instructions or parameters.
- Collaborate with others to resolve issues; for customer-facing roles, build strong customer relationships and serve as the interface between the customer and GE, exchanging technical information and ensuring understanding.
- Manage commissioning activities on customer sites, from site mobilization to daily coordination with the client.
- Ensure compliance with PMH, GRID Quality, and EHS Policies and procedures.
- Record and report Quality Objectives and KPI data in a timely manner.
- Recommend field changes that benefit plant operations or are necessary for efficient commissioning.
- Prepare final Commissioning reports, highlighting problem areas, recommended engineering changes, improvements in organizational efficiency, and personnel performance evaluations to provide feedback to the PM Team.
- Prepare progress reports of activities performed by the Commissioning group, noting any negative events such as delays, design/erection errors, or missing spares.
- Ensure safe procedures, including Permits, Method Statements, Risk Assessments, LOTO, and all high-risk activities, are followed during operation sequences and in the use of equipment and materials.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (including electronics, communication, and power).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in Substation Automation systems (PACiS, DSagile, Aview software).
- Ability to learn and expand work scope within the GE Vernova products portfolio.
- Good knowledge of SAS, Network, IEC61850 protocol, IEC101, IEC 104, and IEC103.
Desired Characteristics
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers, prepare site activity schedules, and deliver on time.
- Experience in Automation systems, including Monitoring and Diagnostics, Telecom, Protection, and DCS/Substation.
- Good knowledge of Telecom, Protection, Cybersecurity, and Modbus.
- Team-oriented and collaborative approach, with strong listening skills and the ability to manage through influence.
- Excellent presentation and written communication skills in both English and Arabic.
- Ability to travel 75% or more outside the base city.
- Genuine commitment to EHS culture and the Inclusion & Diversity (I&D) agenda.
- Compliance with Quality Procedures, work instructions, processes, and Spirit and Letter compliance rules; ability to resolve non-conformances and processes in a timely manner.
- Ability to build strong relationships with GA customers and business stakeholders, including project and operations teams, contractors, and system integrators.
- Training experience and skills are considered a plus.
Work Environment and Location
This is a full-time position based in Al Khobar, Eastern region. The role requires significant travel, with an expectation of 75% or more travel outside the base city. Relocation assistance will be provided for eligible candidates.
