Role Overview

Wood is seeking a TPE V / Principal Cathodic Protection Engineer for a full-time position in Al Khobar, Eastern Province. This role involves leading cathodic protection (CP) system design for various projects within the Oil & Gas, hydrocarbon refinery, offshore, mining, and petrochemical sectors, covering both FEED and detailed design phases. The successful candidate will manage project deliverables, ensure quality and compliance, and coordinate multidisciplinary engineering inputs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design Cathodic Protection (CP) systems for Oil & Gas, hydrocarbon refinery, offshore, mining, and petrochemical projects during FEED and detailed design phases.
  • Prepare CP design drawings and documents in accordance with Saudi Aramco, SABIC, and Maaden standards for pipelines, tanks, well casings, and in-plant underground metallic equipment.
  • Prepare Scope of Work (SOW), Technical Bid Evaluations (TBE), Technical Bid Clarifications (TBC), Material Requisitions (MR), Non-Material Requisitions (NMR), and other CP bidding documentation.
  • Attend pre-design Kick-Off Meetings (KOM) with clients and present CP design approaches for new projects.
  • Prepare site visit agendas and checklists, and collect site data for CP design, including potential data, existing CP system parameters, and current measurements.
  • Revise and check engineering deliverables against company procedures, standards, and checklists, ensuring compliance with contract and scope of work.
  • Supervise engineering work produced by junior engineers and provide relevant training as required.
  • Coordinate with all disciplines to ensure timely receipt of comments and incorporation of inputs into deliverables.
  • Manage and coordinate engineering multidiscipline inputs and deliverables across multiple execution centers, including workshare/high-value engineering centers.
  • Plan individual work activities, manage time, input to work plans, set targets, and conduct regular reviews.
  • Expedite engineers to deliver to schedule, understand reasons for delays, and drive the development of recovery plans.
  • Highlight and quantify changes impacting work and implement approved changes.
  • Supervise technical professionals in the delivery of engineering deliverables, including work checking, and coordinate medium-sized interdisciplinary teams (typically 10-50).
  • Perform site installation and supervision, CP system start-up, and testing commissioning.
  • Lead and handle projects, meet with clients, and prepare presentations.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in cathodic protection system design.
  • Demonstrated experience in offshore CP system design, existing CP assessment, and monitoring.
  • Proficiency in collecting site data required for cathodic protection design of well casing, AC mitigation, and pipelines, including EM34/31 usage.
  • Ability to perform all site measurements necessary for CP design.

Quality, HSE, and Assurance

  • Understand and adhere to quality systems, monitoring and addressing deficiencies.
  • Ensure Health, Safety, Environment, and Security (HSES) issues are identified and addressed in design, manufacture, construction, commissioning, and operations.
  • Develop Project Specific Procedures.
  • Assure the quality of engineering deliverables before issuance to the customer.
  • Chair technical meetings with Third Parties and manage specific technical issues to completion.
  • Follow all safety requirements as per company policy.
