General Surgeon surgical oncology

About the Role

Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare (JHAH) is seeking a General Surgeon specializing in Surgical Oncology to join their team in Dhahran. This full-time position requires 3-5 years of relevant experience and focuses on providing high-standard, cost-effective general surgical care to eligible recipients within JHAH. The role involves duties within the area of expertise and competence as approved by the hospital's Credential & Privileging Authority.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide attending and consulting general surgical care.
• Participate in service clinical and educational rounds, including morning reports and sign-out rounds.
• Attend and contribute to multi-disciplinary team rounds.
• Engage in service/department Quality and Safety activities, including reviews, audits, and presentations.
• Report patient adverse events to the appropriate department/service office.
• Prepare and provide patient reports in accordance with hospital policy.
• Participate in assigned committees and adhere to hospital and departmental policies.
• Delegate and supervise house staff, nursing staff, and operative procedures as appropriate.
• Contribute to teaching and educational activities for junior staff, medical students, and interns.
• Ensure legible and timely entries into patient records, maintaining confidentiality.

In-patient Duties

• Admit patients from the Emergency Room, out-patient clinics, and other hospitals.
• Conduct daily rounds on assigned patients during workdays.
• Foster teamwork and collaborate with all involved healthcare professionals.
• Ensure assigned in-patients receive care during weekends and holidays as per on-call arrangements.
• Respond to emergency calls and attend to patients in a timely manner.
• Participate in trauma care according to established roles.
• Answer in-patient consultations within the required timeframe.
• Carry out appropriate discharge procedures and consult with colleagues as needed.
• Participate in rotational 24-hour on-call coverage.

Out-patient Duties

• Attend to assigned out-patient surgical and procedural clinics punctually.
• Collaborate with the out-patient care nursing team and other professionals to optimize patient benefits.
• Refer patients to other services as appropriate.

Operating Room Duties

• Ensure patients are adequately prepared for required surgery.
• Maintain punctuality and professionalism within the operating room.
• Ensure appropriate operative notes are dictated in a timely manner.
• Keep patient caregivers/guardians informed about procedure outcomes.
• Follow operating room policies and procedures for patient processing.
• Work closely with anesthesia colleagues to ensure patient safety during the perioperative period.

Professional Interactions

The General Surgeon reports to the Division/Unit Head and the Department Chair within the Department of Surgery. Daily interactions include patients, with consultations provided to other specialists on major or complicated surgical cases. Frequent contact is maintained with personnel from surgical services, nurses, and physicians for information exchange and problem resolution. Occasional contacts are made with counterparts in other Middle Eastern/Saudi Arabian medical facilities for consultation and advice regarding clinical evaluation and follow-up of JHAH patients.
