The Role of Assistant Buyer

The Assistant Buyer supports the Buyer and Buying Manager in executing the seasonal buying plan for an assigned category. This full-time role, based in Makkah or Jeddah, involves ensuring operational excellence throughout the buying cycle. The Assistant Buyer is responsible for critical path management, maintaining accurate information in PLM and Dynamics, and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure on-time delivery and smooth product flow. The role requires 2-5 years of experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the weekly critical path tracker for the category, ensuring deadlines are met and communicated.
  • Follow up with vendors and internal teams to ensure milestones are achieved, including lab dips, strike-offs, fit approvals, PP samples, bulk booking, ex-factory dates, and shipping documentation.
  • Escalate risks early with proposed recovery options such as airfreight, split shipments, partial deliveries, or resequencing.
  • Maintain accurate delivery status updates to support launch readiness.
  • Ensure 100% accuracy and timeliness of product and order information in PLM and Dynamics, including actual dates, approvals, cost updates, vendor details, and delivery status.
  • Support PLM implementation by ensuring clean data, correct document storage, and consistent workflows.
  • Participate in weekly trade reviews, using data to identify performance drivers and risks, and support action planning (replenish, reallocate, reprice, exit).
  • Gather insights on customer demand from sales data, store feedback, and observed customer behavior.
  • Conduct regular store visits to validate execution, capture customer insights, and identify commercial opportunities.
  • Perform competitor and market pricing checks, sharing findings and implications with the Buyer to support pricing and assortment decisions.
  • Coordinate with Design/Technical teams to ensure tech packs are complete and issued to vendors on time.
  • Track sample requests, approvals, and revisions, ensuring all comments and approvals are recorded.
  • Maintain accurate assortment plans and trackers, ensuring files are updated, version-controlled, and accessible.
  • Support the Buyer in preparing range reviews, seasonal line plan updates, and trade packs with accurate data.
  • Support purchase order creation and updates in line with approved budgets, costs, and timelines.
  • Ensure all required documentation is complete and submitted on time.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 2-5 years of experience in a relevant buying or merchandising support role.
  • Proficiency in managing critical paths and ensuring timely execution.
  • Experience with PLM and Dynamics systems for data accuracy and management.
  • Ability to analyze trading insights and market intelligence.
  • Strong coordination skills for product and tech pack management.
  • Organizational skills for managing assortment plans and stakeholder coordination.
  • Competence in buying operations and administrative execution.

Work Environment

This is a full-time position located in Makkah or Jeddah. The role involves working within a team to support the buying function and requires coordination with various internal departments and external vendors.
