Assistant Manager FWA Data Science

About the Role

Bupa Arabia is seeking an Assistant Manager - FWA Data Science to join the team in Jeddah. This full-time role is responsible for transforming validated analytical prototypes into robust, scalable, and measurable detection models ready for production implementation. The position involves continuous model improvement throughout the solution lifecycle, working closely with Actuarial, Claims Integrity, and FWA AI Engineering teams.

Role Purpose and Context

The FWA Data Science function focuses on developing and enhancing fraud, waste, and abuse (FWA) detection models. The Assistant Manager will own model enhancement, feature engineering, calibration, validation, explainability, and performance assessment. The role ensures FWA detection models remain effective, relevant, and aligned with evolving fraud patterns after deployment.

Key Accountabilities

• Assess and refine AI/ML prototypes received from Actuarial teams, improving statistical rigor and enhancing feature engineering methodologies.
• Validate prototype assumptions and develop explainable detection methodologies.
• Support the migration of approved analytical models into cloud-based solutions.
• Improve and retrain FWA models using new data and investigation outcomes, developing advanced fraud detection features and enhancing anomaly detection models.
• Build risk scoring methodologies and improve model precision and operational effectiveness.
• Define model success metrics, monitor precision, recall, and business impact, and perform false-positive and false-negative analysis post-deployment.
• Validate model outputs with investigators and support production readiness reviews.
• Analyze investigation outcomes to identify emerging fraud behaviors, design new detection features, and recommend modifications to existing models.
• Collaborate with FWA operations on evolving threats.
• Monitor the business effectiveness of deployed models, recommend retraining and recalibration activities, and support periodic model reviews.
• Maintain model documentation and governance artifacts.

Experience and Qualifications

Candidates for this role should possess 2-5 years of relevant experience in data science, particularly with a focus on fraud detection or similar analytical model development.

Work Environment

This is a full-time position based in Jeddah, where the Assistant Manager will work within a specialized team focused on data science and fraud prevention.
