Job Description

About the Role

Bureau Veritas Mineral Solutions is seeking a Senior Instrument Technician to join its full-time team in Jeddah, within the Makkah region of Saudi Arabia. This role is central to ensuring the optimal performance and reliability of analytical instrumentation within a testing laboratory environment, with a primary focus on ICP-MS and ICP-OES systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate, troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and optimize analytical instruments, primarily ICP-MS and ICP-OES systems. Experience with AAS, XRF, and Carbon & Sulphur analyzers is an advantage.
  • Support analytical testing activities by ensuring instruments are properly configured, calibrated, and operating within performance specifications.
  • Perform routine instrument performance checks, calibration verification, preventive maintenance, and corrective actions to ensure reliable operation and minimize downtime.
  • Coordinate with service engineers and technical support teams for maintenance activities, repairs, spare parts requirements, and service interventions.
  • Monitor and maintain adequate inventory levels of consumables, standards, reagents, and critical spare parts required for instrument operation.
  • Ensure testing equipment remains in good working condition and promptly report any malfunction, abnormal performance, or equipment damage.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, calibration status, service reports, instrument performance, and related documentation using approved systems and LIMS.
  • Assist the Laboratory Supervisor in coordinating daily technical activities related to laboratory instrumentation and equipment reliability.
  • Perform delegated supervisory responsibilities during the absence of the Laboratory Supervisor when required.
  • Carry out any other duties assigned by the Line Manager or Laboratory Manager.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Science.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience (5-10 years preferred) operating ICP and other instruments in testing laboratories.

Technical Expertise and Skills

  • Sound knowledge of ICP-MS, ICP-OES, and AAS instrumentation.
  • Proficiency in instrument operation, maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with ISO/IEC 17025 standards and laboratory quality systems.
  • Ability to analyze test data and prepare comprehensive technical reports.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Good problem-solving and technical writing abilities.

Laboratory Compliance and Practices

  • Support laboratory compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 requirements and participate in quality control, equipment verification, proficiency testing, and inter-laboratory comparison programs.
  • Maintain high standards of laboratory housekeeping, safety, and good laboratory practices, including proper handling and disposal of chemicals and laboratory waste.
  • Comply with Bureau Veritas policies relating to Quality, Health & Safety, Ethics, Confidentiality, and Impartiality.

Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Responsibilities

  • Comply with Bureau Veritas HSE policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and hazard-free workplace and report any hazards, incidents, or unsafe conditions.
  • Take responsibility for personal and team health and safety.
  • Participate in HSE initiatives, investigations, and risk control measures.
  • Cooperate with all safety requirements and promote a positive safety culture.
