The Role of Radiation Safety Officer
KAUST is seeking a dedicated and experienced Radiation Safety Officer to establish, operate, and manage its comprehensive radiation safety program. This full-time role is critical for assessing potential exposures to radiation and ensuring robust Campus HSE compliance across the university's research and educational environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the radiation safety program maintains regulatory compliance with local regulations and international guidelines subscribed to by KAUST.
- Guarantee a safe working, research, and educational environment regarding the use of radiation for research at KAUST.
- Establish the Radiation Safety Program in alignment with regulatory requirements and KAUST operational needs.
- Manage the Radiation Safety Program to support undisrupted radiation research activities, including securing all necessary licenses and permits.
- Serve as the principal technical resource for departmental and campus management on all matters related to radiation safety.
- Review and approve radioactive material purchase request orders.
- Review research protocols and safety plans that involve the use of radiation.
- Author reports and other forms of scientific or technical documentation, including the revision of the University Radiation Safety Program, Manual, and other relevant documents.
Program Scope and Support
This role provides essential support to university staff, faculty, and students in managing Campus HSE compliance related to radiation. The scope of the program may also extend to business partners and industry collaborators when deemed applicable, ensuring a consistent standard of radiation safety across all relevant activities.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific or public health field.
- Minimum of six (6) years of professional experience, including program development in radiation safety within universities or other research environments.
- Membership in a relevant professional organization is preferred.
- KSA Radiation Protection Officer training is preferred.
Work Environment
This full-time position is based in Thuwal, Makkah, Saudi Arabia, within a dynamic academic and research setting. The Radiation Safety Officer will work collaboratively to maintain high safety standards across diverse scientific disciplines.
