Job Description
Company Overview
Solaiman A. ElKhereiji (SAK) Engineering Consultant Company is a reputable AEC consultancy with over 40 years of experience. The firm specializes in delivering projects across hospitality, commercial, industrial, and mixed-use sectors, with expertise in sustainable design, construction supervision, and project management. SAK is recognized for its comprehensive approaches to high-impact developments.
Project Context
This role is for a prestigious heritage project located in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, which is part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 initiative and targets Gold LEED certification. The development includes mixed-use buildings, academies, a traditional Najdi-style local mosque, a digital art museum, and a mud-brick cinema with underground parking. The project integrates state-of-the-art facilities with traditional design elements.
About the Role
As an Acoustics Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring that building and infrastructure projects comply with relevant noise and vibration regulations and design specifications. This full-time position requires a professional with over 10 years of experience. You will serve as an expert advisor to the Construction Supervision Consultant (CSC) and contractors throughout the project construction lifecycle and post-construction phases. A strong working knowledge of acoustic materials for reverberation control and detailing of construction elements, such as partitions, ceilings, and mullions, is beneficial. The role involves ensuring all contractor submittals comply with relevant international and local codes and standards, while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to integrate acoustic system requirements into the overall building design and construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Review architectural, structural, and mechanical drawings and technical submittals, providing expert input on materials, layouts, and construction methods to achieve optimal acoustic performance.
- Conduct environmental and occupational noise surveys using specialized equipment to measure baseline sound and vibration levels on and around the construction site.
- Undertake noise and vibration impact assessments to ensure compliance with building regulations and relevant local and international codes.
- Measure vibrations from sources such as traffic, machinery, or footsteps, and design solutions to mitigate their effects on the structure and occupants.
- Utilize advanced computer modeling software (*, CadnaA, ODEON) to predict sound propagation and simulate room acoustics, aiding in the design of soundproofing and reverberation control.
- Advise on noise control for building services like HVAC systems to prevent noise interference in quiet spaces.
- Conduct site visits and inspections to ensure correct implementation of acoustic design solutions by contractors.
- Supervise the installation of acoustic materials and systems, addressing any on-site issues or deviations from the design.
- Perform post-construction (commissioning) testing to verify that the final build meets specified acoustic performance criteria and building regulations.
- Prepare and review detailed technical reports, proposals, and presentations that communicate complex findings and recommendations to clients, project managers, and other stakeholders.
- Liaise with clients, architects, and other disciplines to ensure an integrated design approach.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers on acoustic design best practices and code compliance.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Over 10 years of experience as an Acoustics Engineer.
- Proficiency in relevant international and local codes and standards.
- Experience with acoustic materials for reverberation control and detailing of construction elements.
- Familiarity with computer modeling software such as CadnaA and ODEON.
