About Bupa Arabia and the Role

Bupa Arabia is seeking a Consultant Family Medicine (Diabetology) to join their team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role involves providing comprehensive medical care to adult patients, with a primary focus on diabetology within the scope of family medicine. The consultant will lead the diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management of diabetes and related metabolic disorders, alongside a broad range of acute and chronic medical conditions, across both in-person clinic and telemedicine settings. The position requires 5-10 years of relevant experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive care for patients through in-person clinic visits and virtual assessments, including diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up for diabetes, metabolic disorders, and other acute and chronic conditions.
  • Conduct thorough clinical evaluations, including medical history, physical or virtual assessment, medication review, diabetes risk assessment, and interpretation of diagnostic findings.
  • Develop and implement individualized, evidence-based management plans, focusing on glycemic optimization, medication management, lifestyle modification, preventive care, and specialist referrals.
  • Manage patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, prediabetes, obesity, and other metabolic conditions, while preventing and managing related complications and comorbidities.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams, including endocrinologists, dietitians, diabetes educators, and pharmacists, to ensure coordinated, patient-centred care across all channels.
  • Utilize digital health technologies, including remote patient monitoring and telemedicine platforms, alongside standard in-clinic systems, maintaining accurate and timely clinical documentation.
  • Promote preventive care, chronic disease management, population health, and value-based care initiatives to improve clinical outcomes and optimize healthcare resource utilization.
  • Adhere to all relevant medical regulations, ethical guidelines, and quality assurance standards for both in-clinic and telehealth practice, participating in quality improvement initiatives and clinical audits.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and families, providing clear explanations of diagnoses, treatment options, and follow-up care in both settings.

Patient Safety and Satisfaction

  • Maintain compliance with all patient safety standards and ensure patient safety across both in-person and virtual clinical interactions.
  • Report any patient safety risks or issues to the appropriate staff in the quality department.
  • Practice safe medicine, explaining medications, possible side effects, and proper use to prevent patient harm.
  • Ensure satisfactory patient consultations through effective communication, comprehensive history taking, empathy, clear explanation of diagnosis and management plans, and addressing patient queries.
  • Monitor patient feedback and address concerns promptly, implementing safety protocols to minimize risks during consultations in both channels.

Professional Development and Technology Proficiency

  • Continuously enhance professional knowledge and skills in family medicine with a focus on diabetology, covering both in-person and telehealth best practices.
  • Attend relevant conferences, workshops, and online courses to stay updated on the latest advancements in diabetology and telehealth technology.
  • Maintain accurate and complete patient records in accordance with HIPAA-equivalent regulations, across both physical and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Maintain proficiency in the clinic's EHR system and designated telehealth platforms, including video conferencing, secure messaging, and EHR integration.
  • Actively participate in training programs, stay updated on platform enhancements, and collaborate with IT support for technical issue resolution.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) classification and registration as a Family Medicine - Diabetology Consultant.
  • Proven experience of 5-10 years as a Family Medicine Diabetology Consultant or in a similar role, preferably within a hospital or clinical setting.
  • Experience in practicing population health management and value-based care approaches.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying abreast of advancements in family medicine, diabetology, population health management, and value-based care.

Work Environment

This is a full-time position based in Riyadh, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, requiring dedication to patient care across both physical and virtual consultation channels.
