Role Overview: Consultant Pediatric Pulmonology
National Medical Care is seeking a Consultant Pediatric Pulmonology to provide comprehensive care to both inpatient and outpatient pulmonology patients. This full-time role requires maintaining a high level of professional performance, adhering to evidence-based medicine, professional medical ethics, JCIA standards, hospital by-laws, and Ministry of Health regulations in Saudi Arabia. The Consultant will also provide effective leadership within the department, focusing on measurable performance improvement in pulmonology services.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide superior quality medical treatment, compassion, and understanding to every patient.
- Deliver patient care within professional competence and clinical privileges for both in-patients and out-patients.
- Practice within clinically relevant and scientifically valid standards, guidelines, and criteria.
- Perform routine procedures including bronchoscopies, pleural biopsies, and pulmonary function tests, as well as inpatient consultations.
- Supervise respiratory therapy services and respiratory management.
- Conduct regular ward rounds independently or as part of a team to formulate multidisciplinary treatment plans.
- Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, assess and refer appropriate patients, and accept referrals for specialty-specific medical problems.
- Participate in the departmental on-call rota for patient care and admission.
- Respond to emergencies, offering advice and actively participating in problem-solving related to the specialty.
- Observe and uphold patients' rights to security, confidentiality, and privacy.
- Maintain appropriate records for all patients with accurate, timely, and legible completion of medical records.
- Abide by Department Policies and Procedures, hospital by-laws, Rules, and Regulations.
Leadership and Professional Engagement
The Consultant will lead organizational performance initiatives and supervise assigned junior staff. This includes providing leadership for performance improvement functions in the process of measurement, assessment, and improvement of both clinical and non-clinical processes as part of the Departmental Quality Plan. Active participation in Continued Medical Education (**** through hospital activities and national/international meetings is required, alongside involvement in literature review, case reporting, and clinical studies/research. The role also involves continuous professional skill upgrades and participation in assigned committee meetings, such as Quality Improvement and Infection Control.
Reporting Lines and Supervision
This position reports directly to the Head, Department of Internal Medicine. The Consultant will liaise with other Consultants within and across departments, nursing staff, other healthcare professionals, patients, and their families. Supervision responsibilities include Senior Registrars, Registrars, Residents, Nurses, and other assigned paramedical staff.
Qualifications and Experience
- Required Qualifications: American Board, Canadian Fellowship, MRCP, or equivalent.
- Required Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of post-qualification experience.
- Licensure: Current valid license to practice medicine in the area of specialty, and registration with the Saudi Medical Council or current license to practice medicine in Saudi Arabia.
- Desirable: Higher qualifications in the specialty, additional experience in a sub-specialty, and academic affiliation.
