Director of Common Courses

About the Role

Riyadh University of Arts (جامعة الرياض للفنون) is seeking a Director of Common Courses to lead the planning, delivery, and continuous improvement of its common courses department. This full-time position, based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, ensures consistent academic quality, faculty readiness, and student support, aligning course delivery with institutional priorities, quality standards, and student learning outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement the Common Courses department's strategic plan, objectives, and goals, ensuring alignment with the overall academic strategy.
• Set and direct the implementation of operational plans to achieve identified objectives for common courses.
• Develop performance objectives and indicators for the department and continuously monitor progress.
• Participate in the budgeting cycle, provide input, and ensure effective utilization of the department's budget.
• Oversee the development and implementation of departmental policies, processes, and procedures, ensuring alignment with best-in-class standards and RUA requirements.
• Inspire and provide guidance, delegation, and mentorship to the team, fostering a performance-driven culture.
• Manage team recruitment, training, development, and performance to ensure availability and qualification.
• Set the annual plan for common courses in line with school priorities, defining delivery timelines, faculty needs, and resource requirements.
• Assign instructors, manage teaching loads, and guide faculty on syllabus implementation, assessment design, and teaching quality.
• Review assessment results, course evaluations, and student achievement trends, ensuring moderation, grading consistency, and compliance with academic standards.
• Prepare regular reports on course delivery, performance, and improvement actions, tracking issues and risks.
• Lead initiatives to improve consistency, quality, and responsiveness across common courses.

Qualifications and Experience

• A minimum of 5-10 years of relevant experience.
• Demonstrated ability to lead strategic planning and operational implementation in an academic setting.
• Experience in budget management and financial oversight.
• Proven track record in developing and implementing policies and procedures.
• Strong leadership and people management skills, including team development and performance management.
• Expertise in curriculum planning, faculty coordination, and quality assurance in course delivery.
