Façade / Envelope Engineer % (m/f)

About the Role

ARX | Smart Minds is seeking a Façade / Envelope Engineer to join their team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role requires an engineer with over 10 years of experience who can assess building envelopes as integrated performance systems, understanding how detailing, materials, and interfaces impact durability and environmental control, particularly in challenging climates. The ideal candidate will be adept at evaluating specialist proposals, communicating performance risks, and collaborating with designers and contractors to resolve interfaces while preserving architectural intent.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical assurance for façades, cladding, glazing, and roofing, including security-rated and blast-related elements as specified.
• Review envelope drawings, specifications, and performance criteria to ensure compliance with approved designs and project requirements.
• Assess thermal, weatherproofing, structural, and fire performance, verifying continuity at joints and transitions.
• Evaluate specialist contractor designs, calculations, and shop drawings, identifying unsupported assumptions or incomplete details.
• Coordinate support, movement, and tolerance interfaces with structural teams and service penetrations with MEP teams.
• Assess material and system submissions against required performance, durability, and maintenance provisions.
• Review mock-up and performance test proposals and witness testing against agreed acceptance criteria.
• Track test observations, design comments, and technical queries through to documented resolution.
• Advise package managers on envelope risks, substitutions, and design changes that may affect building performance or delivery.

Candidate Profile

Candidates should possess strong engineering judgment to evaluate complex building envelope systems. The role requires the ability to challenge specialist proposals effectively, articulate performance risks clearly, and work collaboratively with various stakeholders to achieve optimal design and construction outcomes.

Required Experience

• A minimum of 10 years of experience in façade or building envelope engineering.
