About the Role
King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital (KKESH) in Riyadh is seeking a dedicated Genetics Research Counselor to join its professional team. This full-time position is central to patient care, focusing on determining risk factors for hereditary diseases and disorders through comprehensive genetic testing. The role involves providing essential education and counseling to patients and their families, analyzing complex genetic data, and effectively communicating risk factors.
Role Purpose and Impact
The Genetics Research Counselor plays a critical part in supporting individuals and families affected by genetic conditions. This involves not only the scientific analysis of genetic information but also the compassionate delivery of sensitive diagnoses and guidance. The position contributes directly to patient understanding, coping mechanisms, and the broader field of genetic research within the hospital setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide genetic testing and analyze genetic data in consultation with the genetic disease consultant.
- Offer education and counseling to patients and their families, clearly communicating identified risk factors.
- Analyze patient histories to inform genetic assessments.
- Perform accurate genetic risk calculations.
- Educate families about potential health risks associated with hereditary conditions.
- Assist patients in coping with a diagnosis through supportive counseling.
- Generate comprehensive reports for patients, detailing mode of inheritance, genetic diagnosis, and risk to children.
- Establish, curate, and maintain the genetic results database.
- Participate actively in genetic research initiatives.
- Update the national registry for PCG, IRD, and other ocular genetic diseases.
- Perform all duties in a professional, effective, and confidential manner.
- Undertake all other related duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications and Essential Requirements
- Master's Degree in Genetic Counseling or an equivalent qualification from an accredited university.
- Essential: Classification and Registration from the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS).
Experience and Desirable Skills
Candidates should possess 2 to 5 years of relevant experience in genetic counseling or a related field. Experience specifically in eye research is considered desirable for this position, enhancing the ability to contribute to the specialized focus of the hospital.
