Job Description
About Dar Massader
Dar Massader is a leading company in the Saudi market, specializing in providing smart and reliable solutions for power utilities across the GCC. The company focuses on ensuring optimum performance of major electrical equipment used in power generation, transmission, and distribution, with a strong presence in the power and renewable energy sectors.
The Role of a Geology Specialist
Dar Massader is seeking a Geology Specialist to join its team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role involves leading comprehensive geotechnical and engineering geology investigations for renewable energy, power infrastructure, and mining projects. The specialist will be responsible for determining subsurface conditions, soil and rock properties, and geohazards through various field and laboratory methods, ensuring all work adheres to local and international standards, client specifications, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and oversee comprehensive geotechnical field investigations, including borehole drilling, soil and rock sampling, and in-situ testing (*, Standard Penetration Tests, Cone Penetration Tests, pull-out tests, and percolation tests).
- Define and manage ground investigation scopes and design studies across feasibility, FEED, and detailed design stages.
- Supervise geophysical surveys, such as Electrical Resistivity Testing (ERT) and Seismic Refraction Tomography (SRT), to characterize subsurface conditions and assess seismic and geohazard risk.
- Implement and monitor site safety protocols, ensuring compliance with environmental requirements and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) or equivalent local regulations.
- Compile, interpret, and analyze field and laboratory test results, including thermal resistivity and earth pressure parameters, deriving geotechnical design parameters for engineering disciplines.
- Assess and recommend foundation types and depths for various structures, addressing conditions such as liquefaction potential, soil and slope stability, and groundwater levels.
- Develop detailed engineering recommendations for foundation design, excavation, drainage, backfill, shoring, and slope strategies for deep excavations.
- Ensure accurate documentation of methodologies, parameters, and findings in geotechnical and engineering geology reports, providing clear design recommendations and construction considerations.
- Advise on the suitability of foundation options, compaction, earthwork, and ground improvement/soil modification techniques.
- Identify and assess geohazards and ground risks, including seismicity, slope instability, sinkholes, and sabkha, recommending appropriate mitigation measures for design.
- Oversee the design and application of temporary and permanent lateral support systems for deep excavation sites.
- Conduct training and provide guidance to team members on specialized field testing, safety compliance, and data interpretation and reporting procedures.
- Review all test results, including trial pile load testing, ensuring accuracy and adherence to ASTM, AASHTO, Saudi, and other applicable regional standards.
- Implement quality control measures across field operations and reporting, confirming data analysis and recommendations align with site-specific conditions and project requirements.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of 8-12 years of experience in geotechnical investigations and reporting, with hands-on involvement in engineering and design studies for renewable energy, power infrastructure, or mining projects.
- Proven track record in preparing and reviewing geotechnical design deliverables within an EPC or engineering consultancy environment, collaborating with multidisciplinary design teams.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification is preferred.
- Strong familiarity with regional geological conditions and site investigation requirements, particularly in arid and semi-arid environments typical of Gulf renewable energy, power, and mining developments.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel for field assignments.
Leadership and Team Collaboration
The Geology Specialist will lead a team of field technicians, geologists, and engineers, coordinating geotechnical work closely with project managers, design engineers, clients, and contractors. This involves aligning activities with project-specific design and delivery requirements, as well as conducting training and providing guidance to team members on specialized field testing, safety compliance, and data interpretation and reporting procedures.
Application
If you meet the qualifications and are ready to contribute to significant power and renewable energy projects in Saudi Arabia, we encourage you to apply.
