About the Role

Yassir, a Super App focused on simplifying lives in Africa and its diaspora, is seeking a Mid/Senior Data Scientist to join its Artificial Intelligence (AI) team. This role is integral to enhancing core Yassir functionalities, such as Dynamic Pricing and Trip Dispatching, by applying advanced data analysis and modeling to optimize Machine Learning (ML) systems. The position requires a strong foundation in predictive modeling and software development to deliver impactful solutions and significant value to Yassir's operations. Key Responsibilities

• Become a subject matter expert and thought leader within your designated scope, understanding its principles and details thoroughly.
• Focus on optimizing key areas including dynamic/surge pricing, discount/commissioning optimization, personalized pricing, dispatching efficiency, fraud detection, revenue leakage prevention, and recommendation systems.
• Proactively identify and propose new Machine Learning opportunities relevant to your scope and the broader organization.
• Contribute to defining requirements and prioritizing ML projects.
• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional Engineering and Product teams.
• Champion data quality as a fundamental component for all ML solutions and analytics initiatives.
• Conduct thorough Exploratory Data Analysis, followed by feature selection and engineering.
• Apply appropriate statistical and ML techniques for model training and validation.
• Tune and validate ML models to ensure optimal performance.
• Visualize analysis and modeling results, focusing on meaningful and actionable metrics and insights.
• Deploy and test ML applications using the established MLOps infrastructure.
• Monitor ML models for technical performance, business impact, and to detect data or concept drift.
• Clearly articulate technical solutions in a business-friendly manner to support product teams in their communications and reporting.
• Maintain and enhance technical documentation for all delivered solutions.
• Support the Data & AI domain in developing technical capabilities, improving work methodologies, and fostering collaboration with dependent teams.
• Champion a data-driven culture by proactively sharing knowledge across teams and actively participating in team-building activities.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Solid technical skills in Mathematics, Statistics, Machine Learning, and Software Development, ideally supported by a Master's degree or higher in a relevant quantitative field such as Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Machine Learning, Operational Research, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Physics.
• Proficiency in writing efficient, production-quality Python and SQL code in a professional setting, with at least 2 years of relevant industry experience (more experience is expected for senior roles).
• Strong understanding of key software engineering concepts including code and memory profiling, code optimization, scalability, code and QA testing, cost optimization, and associated best practices.
• Firm grasp of key statistical concepts, including statistical testing and causal analysis.
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills to address complex challenges.
• An engineering mindset focused on delivering robust and applied data science solutions.
• Effective data visualization skills, with experience using common Python ecosystem libraries and/or Analytics/BI tooling.
• Familiarity and prior experience with cloud solutions and their data/ML services; experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is highly preferred.
• Mastery of the end-to-end lifecycle of ML model development.
• Effective communication skills, including presenting findings and providing clear, concise oral and written documentation in professional English.

Additional Information

This is a full-time position based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The role requires 2-5 years of experience. Experience with On-demand, Mobility, or Financial Services companies is advantageous, as is experience working on ML features for Digital Products (apps, websites). Prior experience with Pricing/Economics related projects and/or modelling techniques, Fraud Detection related projects, Dispatching related projects, or Personalization related projects is also beneficial.
