The Role: Mine Shift Supervisor

Saudi Gold Refinery Co. is seeking a full-time Mine Shift Supervisor based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This role involves overseeing daily extraction operations at mining sites, ensuring the safe and efficient production of ore for downstream refining and bullion manufacturing processes. The Mine Shift Supervisor will lead shift crews, ensuring adherence to strict safety standards and operational protocols set by the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources. Reporting directly to the Mine Manager, this position requires decisive leadership to manage complex underground or open-pit activities and coordinate with processing and maintenance teams, focusing on meeting production targets and maintaining zero harm principles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct all mining activities during assigned shifts to ensure consistent ore extraction rates and quality standards.
  • Enforce strict adherence to permit-to-work systems and personal protective equipment requirements for all site personnel.
  • Monitor real-time production data to ensure shift outputs align with daily and weekly mining plans.
  • Coordinate with maintenance teams to minimize equipment downtime through proactive fault reporting and inspection.
  • Mentor junior staff and Saudi national trainees to enhance technical skills and operational competency.
  • Ensure all mining activities comply with Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources regulations and internal policies.
  • Lead immediate response efforts for any safety incidents or operational disruptions occurring during the shift.
  • Manage the efficient use of explosives, fuel, and other consumables to control operational costs.
  • Liaise with geology and processing teams to ensure ore quality meets refining specifications.
  • Maintain accurate records of production volumes, personnel attendance, and safety observations for management review.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in mining operations, with at least two years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Proficiency in both English and Arabic for effective communication with diverse teams.
  • Deep knowledge of MIM safety regulations and mining best practices.
  • Experience with drill and blast operations in hard rock environments.
  • Strong analytical skills for interpreting production data and geological models.
  • Ability to work rotational shifts in remote locations.
  • Valid driving license and physical fitness for underground or pit site inspections.

Preferred Attributes

  • Experience in gold mining projects within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
  • Familiarity with digital mine planning tools such as Deswik or Surpac.
  • Certification in NEBOSH or equivalent occupational health and safety standards.
  • Demonstrated track record of contributing to Saudization goals through mentorship.

Performance Indicators

  • Achieve zero lost-time injuries and full compliance with safety permits during assigned shifts.
  • Attain 95% or higher of monthly tonnage and grade production targets.
  • Contribute to a 10% reduction in equipment downtime through effective maintenance coordination.
  • Successfully certify at least three junior Saudi operators within the first year.
  • Maintain 100% accuracy in shift production reporting and inventory consumption logs.
  • Receive positive feedback from internal audits regarding regulatory and procedural compliance.
  • Optimize explosive and fuel usage costs by 5% against baseline budgets.
