About the Role

King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre in Riyadh is seeking a dedicated Neurophysiology Technologist for a full-time position. This role is central to performing specified Clinical Neurophysiology Procedures, ensuring accurate diagnostic information and patient safety across various hospital settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work independently to establish and maintain a proper testing environment in the laboratory, wards, Emergency Room (ER), and Intensive Care Units (ICUs).
  • Obtain and summarize patient medical history, explain procedures, and ensure patient comfort.
  • Precisely apply multiple electrodes to predetermined anatomical sites and adjust equipment settings for accurate test results.
  • Recognize and eliminate artifacts to produce meaningful diagnostic information.
  • Perform urgent diagnostic tests on critically ill patients in ICUs and the ER, utilizing mobile equipment or laboratory settings, in coordination with nursing and respiratory therapy personnel.
  • Monitor patients with surgically implanted intracranial electrodes and assist physicians with invasive procedures such as Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring, Electrocorticography, and Electromyography.
  • Observe patient reactions clinically and electrographically during testing, noting signs of distress, medical emergencies, or seizures, and taking remedial action as necessary.
  • Conduct preliminary analysis and description of waveforms or potentials, ensuring accuracy and preparing pertinent data for physician review.
  • Ensure patient safety and the safe operation of equipment, reporting faults in writing to the supervisor.
  • Maintain the work area, ensure adequate stock levels, and clean and disinfect clinical equipment.
  • Participate in the on-call rota for EEG and LTM services and work as a team leader in procedural areas on a rotational basis.
  • Contribute to laboratory quality improvement programs and engage in self and others' education, training, and development.
  • Adhere to all Hospital policies and procedures and perform other related duties as assigned.

Specialized Procedures

The Neurophysiology Technologist will perform a range of specialized procedures on both adult and pediatric patients, adapting techniques based on age, diagnosis, current state, and medical history. These include:

  • Digital Video Electroencephalography (EEG)
  • Visual, Brainstem Auditory, and Somatosensory Evoked Potentials
  • Nerve Conduction Studies
  • Sleep Studies and Pulse Oximetry
  • Autonomic Studies
  • Long Term Video/Digital Encephalographic Monitoring (LTM)
  • Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring
  • Electrocorticography and Electromyography

Qualifications and Professional Requirements

  • Bachelorโ€™s or Associate Degree/Diploma in Clinical Neurophysiology, or successful completion of a formal two-year program in Clinical Neurophysiology or a related discipline.
  • Current Registration from the country of origin and the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCHS).
  • Board registration in EEG/Electrodiagnostics or equivalent.
  • Certification through examination from an accredited Electroneurodiagnostic Program.

Experience Requirements

The required experience level varies by grade:

  • Grade 08: Two (2) years of related experience with a Bachelorโ€™s degree, or four (4) years with an Associate Degree/Diploma or program.
  • Grade 09: Four (4) years of experience as a Neurophysiology Technologist at KFSH&RC (Grade 08), or equivalent related experience. This grade also requires an average annual performance appraisal of at least for the last four (4) years and fifty (50) cumulative continued medical education (CME) credits.

Work Environment and Professional Growth

This full-time role operates within a dynamic hospital environment, including laboratories, wards, ER, and ICUs. The technologist will collaborate closely with nursing and respiratory therapy personnel, and neurophysiologists.
