Alfanar Engineering Services is seeking a Power Service Transformer Engineer to join its team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role is integral to maintaining the operational integrity and reliability of power transformers across various facilities.

The Role of Power Service Transformer Engineer

The Power Service Transformer Engineer is responsible for the comprehensive management of power transformers, ranging from Low Voltage (LV) to Extra High Voltage (EHV) units, within substations and industrial settings. This involves overseeing installation, conducting testing and commissioning, performing maintenance, and executing troubleshooting and overhaul activities. The role focuses on ensuring high reliability, strict compliance with industry standards, and minimizing operational downtime.

Core Responsibilities

The primary duties of this position encompass a range of activities essential for the lifecycle management of power transformers. These responsibilities include:

  • Supervising the installation, erection, and commissioning of power transformers.
  • Performing and interpreting various diagnostic tests on transformer units.
  • Planning and executing preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Diagnosing faults and overseeing repair or refurbishment works to ensure operational continuity.

Installation and Commissioning Activities

Key tasks related to transformer installation and commissioning include:

  • Supervising transformer erection, oil filling, vacuum treatment, and drying processes.
  • Conducting pre-commissioning and commissioning tests, including coordination of Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) when required.
  • Ensuring strict compliance with engineering drawings, method statements, and established safety procedures throughout all phases.

Testing, Diagnostics, and Maintenance Operations

The role involves comprehensive testing, diagnostic analysis, and maintenance oversight:

  • Performing and interpreting a range of diagnostic tests, such as Insulation Resistance (IR), Transformer Turns Ratio (TTR), Winding Resistance, Capacitance & Tan Delta (Power Factor), Sweep Frequency Response Analysis (SFRA), Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA) interpretation, and Partial Discharge (PD) testing.
  • Analyzing test results and preparing detailed technical reports with corrective recommendations.
  • Planning and implementing preventive and predictive maintenance activities for power transformers.
  • Diagnosing various faults, including overheating, oil leakage, abnormal gases, bushing failures, and On-Load Tap Changer (OLTC) issues.
  • Supervising repair, refurbishment, or retrofitting works to restore transformer functionality.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates for this position should meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • A minimum of 5 to 10 years of relevant experience in power transformer services.
