This full-time role supports the Expo 2030 Riyadh project in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The Expo, themed "Foresight for Tomorrow," aims to be a global platform for sustainable development and innovation, expecting over 40 million visits between October 2030 and March 2031. Bechtel is responsible for managing the infrastructure program for the 6 km2 Masterplan, encompassing early works, utilities, and publicly accessible spaces, with a planned transition into a mixed-use legacy development post-event.

The Project Engineer Role

As a Project Engineer (EXPO), you will play a key role in supporting the planning, review, coordination, integration, and delivery of civil infrastructure projects within the Expo program. This includes critical elements such as roads, utilities, drainage, grading, public realm interfaces, site-wide infrastructure, and supporting external works. You will report directly to the Engineering Manager – Mobility & Civil Infrastructure, contributing to the successful execution of this significant global event.

Core Responsibilities

  • Support the management and delivery of civil infrastructure projects and engineering assignments.
  • Review consultant design submissions, including reports, drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical studies.
  • Assist in the coordination of roads, utilities, drainage, grading, public realm, and related infrastructure works.
  • Support interdisciplinary coordination with mobility, transport systems, architecture, landscape, utilities, operations, and construction teams.
  • Track design development, approvals, deliverables, reviews, comments, and action items.
  • Participate in technical workshops, coordination meetings, and stakeholder discussions.
  • Assist with the management of consultant activities and review processes.
  • Review design proposals for compliance with project requirements, applicable codes, standards, and authority requirements.
  • Coordinate with utility providers and external authorities regarding infrastructure interfaces and approvals.
  • Support the identification, tracking, and resolution of technical issues, constraints, and design conflicts.
  • Assist with risk identification and mitigation related to infrastructure works.
  • Support change management activities and the assessment of design changes.
  • Monitor consultant performance against agreed deliverables, schedules, and quality requirements.
  • Support the preparation of technical reports, presentations, progress updates, and management briefings.
  • Maintain records of reviews, comments, decisions, approvals, and technical correspondence.
  • Support interface coordination between infrastructure packages and adjacent developments.
  • Assist in planning for construction, testing, commissioning, handover, and operational readiness activities where applicable.
  • Perform field visits and site inspections to verify design assumptions and support project coordination activities.
  • Support the resolution of construction-related technical queries and engineering issues during project delivery.

Technical Focus and Coordination

This role requires providing technical support to the Engineering Manager, involving the management of consultants, coordination with various stakeholders, and diligent review of design deliverables. You will be responsible for monitoring project progress and ensuring that infrastructure packages are effectively coordinated with operational requirements, adjacent projects, relevant authorities, and utility providers. Your technical expertise and coordination capabilities are essential for delivering projects in alignment with established requirements, design standards, program objectives, and budget constraints.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A minimum of 5 to 10 years of relevant experience in project engineering, specifically within civil infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge in civil infrastructure, including roads, utilities, drainage, and grading.
  • Proven coordination skills for managing consultants, stakeholders, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to review and assess design deliverables for compliance with project standards and regulatory requirements.

Work Location

This position is based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, supporting the on-site delivery of the Expo 2030 infrastructure program.
