About the Role

National Medical Care is seeking a Resident Anesthesia to join its full-time team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This role is suitable for professionals with 0-1 years of experience, focusing on providing essential anesthetic services to patients within a structured hospital environment.

Core Responsibilities and Standards

The Resident Anesthesia is responsible for delivering high-quality anesthetic services while upholding professional medical ethics and adhering to established standards. This includes compliance with JCIA/CBAHI standards, hospital medical by-laws, and the regulations set by the Ministry of Health in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, along with other applicable departmental quality plans.

Key Duties

  • Perform pre-operative assessments of assigned patients, including history taking, physical examinations, and interpretation of diagnostic tests, documenting conditions according to JCIA standards.
  • Conduct daily pre-anesthesia ward rounds for all inpatients and liaise with Consultants regarding patient care.
  • Document patient management plans and maintain accurate, timely, and legible medical records with updated follow-up notes.
  • Seek Consultant advice or assistance when a patient's condition requires further expertise, working under supervision.
  • Participate as a member of the 'Code Blue' team when directed.
  • Actively engage in the departmental on-call rota for patient care and admissions, responding to emergencies related to the specialty.
  • Assist Senior staff (Consultants) in performing diagnostic or therapeutic procedures within the specialty.
  • Supervise Junior Staff in their duties as designated by the department.
  • Abide by departmental policies and procedures, as well as hospital by-laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Perform other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Patient and Family Education

The Resident plays an essential role in patient and family education. This involves educating patients and their families based on their needs, implementing the patient/family education process as outlined in relevant policies, and documenting these interactions in the patient medical record. The role requires involving patients and families in their plan of care, respecting their goals and choices, and providing health promotion and teaching appropriate to their developmental level, learning needs, readiness, language preference, culture, and specific situations. Adequate time must be allotted to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient education, ensuring proper documentation.

Reporting and Collaboration

This position reports directly to the Head, Department of Anesthesiology. The Resident Anesthesia supervises other Residents within the Department of Anesthesia. Collaboration is essential, involving regular liaison with Consultants within the specialty and other departments, nursing staff, other healthcare professionals, and patients and their families.

Qualifications and Professional Development

Candidates for this role should possess 0-1 years of relevant experience. The Resident is expected to actively participate in the department's educational and training activities, demonstrating a commitment to continuous professional growth and adherence to all hospital and departmental guidelines.
