Senior Backend Developer

About the Role

Norconsult Telematics is seeking a Senior Backend Developer to join their team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role focuses on delivering and maintaining robust backend services and APIs, ensuring high availability and performance across the platform estate. The ideal candidate will have 2-5 years of experience in backend development.

Position Objective

The primary objective of this role is to deliver backend and API enhancements according to agreed scope, quality, and schedule. This includes maintaining service availability, performance, and SLA compliance, while continuously improving both .NET Framework and .NET Core services. The Senior Backend Developer will also focus on enhancing database performance and query efficiency for SQL Server workloads, and strengthening test coverage, deployment automation, and technical documentation.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain REST APIs and backend services.
• Develop and maintain services across both .NET Framework and .NET Core environments.
• Design and optimize SQL Server databases, including queries, stored procedures, indexing, and performance tuning.
• Implement API authentication and authorization mechanisms.
• Debug, troubleshoot, and provide support for existing production backend applications.
• Analyze application logs and monitoring output to diagnose production issues, and participate in incident investigation and root-cause analysis.
• Contribute to incident and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) documentation.
• Participate in the out-of-hours and on-call support rota for production issues.
• Work from Azure Boards and maintain a clear delivery audit trail in Azure DevOps.
• Write and maintain unit and integration tests.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes.
• Support services deployed across both cloud and data-centre-hosted environments.
• Write clean, maintainable, well-structured code and participate in code reviews.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation.
• Work effectively within an existing development team and alongside frontend and mobile engineers.

Qualifications and Experience

• Demonstrated experience in delivering and supporting production-grade backend services and APIs.
• Experience taking independent ownership of technical problems through to production-ready resolution.
• Experience working within Agile delivery environments and structured code review processes.
• Willingness to participate in an out-of-hours support rotation.

Work Environment

This is a full-time position based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, requiring collaboration within an existing development team and with other engineering disciplines.
