Senior DevOps Engineer

About the Role

Norconsult Telematics is seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to join their team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role focuses on bridging development and operations to ensure enterprise applications and IT infrastructure are highly available, secure, scalable, and delivered through reliable automation. The position is central to improving how systems are built, deployed, monitored, and maintained, translating platform and infrastructure needs into resilient, repeatable operational outcomes.

Role Objective

The objective of this role is to reduce manual operational overhead, improve consistency across environments, and create dependable delivery mechanisms that support growth without compromising control or stability. The Senior DevOps Engineer will work across development and operations boundaries, aligning engineering practices with operational needs to ensure efficient and resilient infrastructure and application delivery. The scope includes infrastructure operations, deployment automation, reliability enablement, and continuous improvement of environments and delivery processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Improve the availability of enterprise applications and supporting infrastructure by strengthening operational reliability and ensuring production environment stability.
• Drive secure and automated delivery outcomes by enhancing mechanisms for building, testing, releasing, and changing infrastructure and applications.
• Improve scalability across platforms and environments by evolving infrastructure patterns and operational practices.
• Strengthen collaboration between development and operations teams through established workflows and technical guardrails.
• Increase the security posture of infrastructure and delivery processes by embedding operational controls and secure configuration practices.
• Reduce operational risk by identifying fragile processes and driving remediation efforts to improve resilience.
• Improve observability and operational decision-making by ensuring systems produce necessary telemetry, alerts, and service-level signals.
• Enable development teams to deliver efficiently by providing dependable infrastructure foundations and standardized deployment pathways.
• Drive continuous improvement in infrastructure and application operations based on incidents and delivery bottlenecks.
• Contribute senior-level operational leadership by shaping best practices and influencing engineering standards.
• Lead the deployment, health monitoring, and lifecycle management of Container Orchestration platforms (OpenShift/Kubernetes).
• Manage mixed OS environments (Linux and Windows), including server troubleshooting and automated provisioning via Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible).
• Oversee public/hybrid cloud infrastructure management (OpenShift, Azure, AWS), optimizing resources and ensuring high availability.
• Develop and execute project plans for CI/CD pipeline optimizations, reducing build times.
• Implement GitOps methodologies and execute zero-downtime releases using Blue/Green or Canary deployment strategies.
• Troubleshoot and resolve pipeline failures, dependency conflicts, and webhook integrations across the development toolchain (Git, Jira, Azure).
• Act as the primary responder for application performance issues, isolating root causes across disk I/O, CPU, or network latency.
• Establish robust observability using APM tools (Dynatrace, Datadog), building custom dashboards, and tuning alerts.
• Troubleshoot complex network connectivity, DNS, DHCP, and VPN issues using packet analysis tools (tcpdump, wireshark) and optimize Load Balancer configurations (HAProxy, Nginx).
• Identify, assess, and mitigate IT infrastructure risks by applying emergency hotfixes and automating OS/application patch cycles.
• Ensure projects follow organizational policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements by enforcing security hardening (CIS Benchmarks, SELinux) and managing secret vaults.
• Oversee quality assurance processes for infrastructure projects, including backup verification and database disaster recovery drills.
• Enforce FinOps best practices to monitor and control cloud and infrastructure budgets.
• Perform database performance tuning, collaborating with developers on SQL query optimization and managing connection pool limits.
• Allocate and optimize computing resources across namespaces, adjusting Kubernetes Horizontal Pod Autoscaler (HPA) thresholds.
• Develop and implement change management strategies for infrastructure upgrades, platform migrations, and toolchain updates.
• Engage with stakeholders to ensure alignment on project goals and evaluate the organizational impact of infrastructure changes.
• Build and lead training and communication efforts for stakeholders regarding infrastructure changes.
• Drive continuous improvements in project management and operations practices, automating manual administrative tasks with Python/Bash/PowerShell scripts.
• Monitor the latest trends and incorporate innovative technologies (*, Site Reliability Engineering practices, SLOs/Error Budgets) into project plans.
• Promote a culture of innovation and excellence, adopting new tools and methodologies to modernize legacy environments.

Qualifications and Experience

• A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in DevOps or a related field.
• Demonstrated ability to translate platform and infrastructure needs into resilient, repeatable operational outcomes.
• Experience with container orchestration platforms such as OpenShift/Kubernetes.
• Proficiency in managing mixed OS environments (Linux and Windows) and Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, Ansible).
• Familiarity with public/hybrid cloud infrastructure management (OpenShift, Azure, AWS).
• Experience with CI/CD pipeline optimization and GitOps methodologies.
• Strong troubleshooting skills for network, application, and pipeline issues.
• Proficiency with APM tools (Dynatrace, Datadog) and observability platforms (Grafana/Kibana).
• Knowledge of security hardening (CIS Benchmarks, SELinux) and secret management.
• Understanding of FinOps best practices for cloud and infrastructure budget control.
• Experience with database performance tuning and optimization.
• Ability to develop and implement change management strategies.
