About the Senior SQL DBA Position

BAE Systems Saudi Arabia is seeking a highly skilled Senior SQL DBA to join its International Systems Engineering (ISE) team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role is integral to managing and optimizing critical SQL database systems within BAE Systems’ global portfolio. The position is open exclusively to Saudi Nationals.

Core Database Responsibilities

• Perform standard Business As Usual (BAU) activities, including SQL monitoring and performance tuning using profiler and extended events.
• Manage disaster recovery activities and demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of SQL recovery types.
• Develop and implement TSQL scripting solutions.
• Ensure high availability for database systems through the implementation and management of ‘Always On’ availability groups.
• Lead and execute SQL migration activities across various versions, from SQL 2008R2 to SQL 2019.
• Oversee the installation and testing of new Database Management System (DBMS) versions.
• Review the design and development of SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and DDL/DML commands as required.

Leadership in Database Design and Operations

• Lead the creation and maintenance of storage design, archive, backup, and recovery activities, plans, and procedures.
• Lead the design, creation, maintenance, and monitoring of database instances.
• Develop and implement procedures and monitoring processes to ensure data integrity, availability, and validation.
• Provide consultancy and support on new technologies to improve database functionality and efficiency.
• Support the technical support team on database design, development, and maintenance as needed.
• Ensure that storage, archiving, backup, and recovery procedures are functioning correctly.
• Map out conceptual designs for planned databases and refine logical designs into specific data models.
• Monitor the process of refining physical designs to meet system storage requirements.
• Liaise and coordinate related work streams with IT project managers, database programmers, and application developers.
• Ensure proper and regular communication with technical, applications, and operational staff to maintain database integrity and optimization.
• Supervise the commissioning and installation of new applications and customization of existing applications to ensure fitness for purpose.
• Ensure all procedure documentation and guide manuals are in place and up-to-date.
• Report on availability, performance, and capacity aspects for all databases and related infrastructure components.

Qualifications and Experience

• A Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology is preferred.
• A minimum of 3-4 years of experience in a similar setup is required.
• Preferably, candidates will have at least 1 year of experience in a supervisory role.
• Relevant IT certificates are essential.

Required Skills and Knowledge

• Proficiency with SQL versions ranging from 2008R2 to SQL 2019.
• Strong knowledge of database security, access, and reporting methods.
• Familiarity with IT Service Frameworks.
• Fluency in both Arabic and English is mandatory.
