About the Role

Deutsche Bahn is seeking a Senior Transportation Systems Engineer (f/m/d) to join their team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. DB Engineering & Consulting provides global expertise in the rail sector, developing infrastructure, mobility, and transport solutions with a focus on sustainability and future success. This is a full-time position requiring over 10 years of experience.

Role Overview

The Senior Transportation Systems Engineer will play a crucial role in the successful implementation and integration of complex transit systems. This position involves technical leadership, oversight of design and integration processes, and ensuring compliance with project requirements and safety standards for automated metro operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the review and approval of transit system designs, technical submittals, and interface documentation, ensuring adherence to the D&B Contract and Employer Requirements.
  • Coordinate and oversee system integration across various disciplines including signalling/ATC, telecoms, rolling stock, traction power, platform screen doors (PSDs), SCADA, depot systems, and station systems.
  • Provide technical leadership during testing and commissioning phases, encompassing Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), integration tests, system demonstrations, and trial running.
  • Monitor system-level performance to ensure compliance with RAMS targets, operational requirements, and safety standards for automated metro operations.
  • Participate in inspections, audits, Non-Conformance Report (NCR) processes, and quality assurance activities to verify correct installation, configuration, and integration of transit systems.
  • Assess technical risks, interface issues, and design changes, managing their impact on system performance, integration, and operational readiness.
  • Liaise closely with PMCM teams, D&B Contractor disciplines, system suppliers, the O&M Entity, and Employer stakeholders to resolve system issues and align objectives.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports, system assessments, integration updates, and progress documentation to support PMCM reporting and Employer decision-making.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Railway Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in rail or metro transit systems engineering.
  • Extensive experience covering signalling, telecoms, rolling stock interfaces, power systems, and overall system integration.
  • Strong understanding of system integration principles, interface management, and interdependencies within complex, multi-system automated metro environments.
  • Proven ability to review and validate technical submittals, interface control documents, test plans, NCRs, and commissioning deliverables.
  • Familiarity with RAMS frameworks, safety standards (*, EN 50126/50129), and performance requirements for UTO (Unattended Train Operation) metro systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent leadership, coordination, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • High level of professionalism, technical rigor, and adaptability.
