This contract role for a Terraform and Platform Automation Engineer is based in Riyadh.

Role Overview

The Terraform and Platform Automation Engineer will be responsible for establishing and enhancing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) capabilities for client DevOps and DevSecOps workstreams. This includes developing reusable modules, managing remote state, implementing controlled plan/apply workflows, and integrating automation with platforms such as GitLab and Vault.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement Terraform repository structures, module standards, and environment parameterization.
• Build reusable modules for in-scope DevOps and DevSecOps platform components.
• Configure secure remote state, including locking, encryption, and access controls.
• Integrate Terraform workflows into GitLab CI/CD, incorporating validate, plan, approval, and apply stages.
• Integrate Terraform with Vault for provider credentials, secret retrieval, and secure automation.
• Support infrastructure change governance, evidence retention, and disaster recovery (DR)-aware IaC patterns.
• Produce comprehensive Terraform documentation, operating procedures, and contribution standards.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum of 5+ years of overall experience in infrastructure automation, cloud engineering, or platform engineering.
• At least 3+ years of strong hands-on Terraform experience in production environments.
• Strong experience with reusable Terraform modules, state management, variables, and environment segregation.
• Experience with Git-based infrastructure workflows, including approval gates and controlled change implementation.
• Proficiency in integrating Terraform with CI/CD platforms and secrets management tools.
• Strong Linux, scripting, and automation troubleshooting skills.
• Demonstrated strong troubleshooting skills to efficiently diagnose, analyze, and resolve infrastructure and automation issues.

Required Certifications

• HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate
• HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Authoring and Operations Professional
• Preferred: GitLab Certified CI/CD Associate for GitLab-integrated Terraform workflows.

Work Environment

This is a contract position based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
