About the Lead Mechanical Integrity Engineer Role
NEOM Green Hydrogen Company is seeking a Lead Mechanical Integrity Engineer to ensure the reliability, safety, and lifecycle integrity of static equipment and pressure systems within its green hydrogen production facilities. This full-time role, based in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, provides technical authority on inspection, maintenance, and fitness-for-service, supporting safe, efficient, and sustainable plant operations. The position requires a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
Role Responsibilities
The Lead Mechanical Integrity Engineer will be responsible for the following:
- Developing, implementing, and continuously improving the Mechanical Integrity Program (MIP) for all static equipment and pressure systems, including pressure vessels, piping, heat exchangers, storage tanks, electrolyzer modules, ASU cold boxes, and ammonia plant equipment.
- Performing engineering assessments and Fitness-for-Service (FFS) evaluations in accordance with API/ASME standards.
- Leading asset integrity reviews, bad actor elimination programs, and reliability improvement initiatives.
- Defining and overseeing inspection strategies using risk-based approaches (RBI).
- Interpreting advanced and conventional NDT techniques and translating findings into actionable maintenance plans.
- Managing degradation mechanisms relevant to hydrogen and ammonia services, such as hydrogen embrittlement, HTHA, CUI, SCC, and cryogenic damage.
- Leading static equipment maintenance, repair, and overhaul activities during planned shutdowns and turnarounds, including preparing scopes of work and technical specifications.
- Leading and participating in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations for equipment failures and process upsets, and developing corrective and preventive actions.
- Providing mechanical integrity and inspection support during project phases, including design review, construction, pre-commissioning, and startup.
- Ensuring compliance with international codes and standards (API, ASME, NACE, EIGA, ISO) and managing pressure relief device programs.
- Maintaining accurate inspection and maintenance records in asset management systems and supporting digitalization initiatives.
- Providing technical leadership and mentoring to engineers and inspectors, and collaborating with operations, process engineering, HSE, and project teams.
Qualifications and Experience
Candidates for this role should possess the following qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 15+ years of experience in mechanical integrity, inspection, and maintenance of static equipment within the oil & gas, petrochemical, industrial gases, or hydrogen/ammonia plant sectors.
- Strong experience with pressure systems, ASU, hydrogen, or ammonia facilities.
Technical Skills and Competencies
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- Deep knowledge of static equipment design, damage mechanisms, and lifecycle management.
- Expertise in hydrogen-related degradation mechanisms and high-temperature/cryogenic systems.
- A strong understanding of international engineering standards and best practices.
- Proven experience in turnaround planning and execution.
- Analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
- Technical leadership and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication and stakeholder coordination abilities.
- Proficiency in data-driven reliability and asset performance management.
Work Location and Travel
This is a full-time, office-based role within the O&M GHE division, reporting to the O&M GHE Director. The primary work location is Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. Travel is required to the Tabuk region as needed for the role.
