The Barista Role

The Barista is responsible for the precise preparation and serving of coffee, espresso, tea, and specialty beverages. This full-time position requires a strong focus on product knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to deliver memorable guest interactions in a dynamic environment. Candidates should have 0-1 years of experience in a similar role, supporting the overall cleanliness, inventory management, and presentation of the café or coffee service area.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare espresso-based drinks, teas, and specialty beverages in adherence to established recipes and standards.
• Ensure consistent beverage quality, presentation, and timely delivery.
• Provide warm, attentive, and knowledgeable service to enhance the guest experience.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked workstation throughout service periods.
• Proactively monitor and replenish inventory of coffee, milk, syrups, and related supplies.
• Operate espresso machines, grinders, and brewing equipment safely, reporting any issues promptly.
• Uphold all food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards.
• Process guest orders and payments accurately using the POS system.
• Demonstrate strong product knowledge of coffee beans, brewing methods, teas, and specialty beverages to confidently recommend and upsell.
• Personalize service by engaging with guests and, where appropriate, using names.
• Communicate effectively with team members to ensure smooth and efficient service flow.
• Assist with setup before service and breakdown/cleaning after shifts, including preparing mise en place for peak periods.
• Support the onboarding of new team members by demonstrating beverage preparation and service standards.
• Maintain Faena service standards in appearance, behavior, and guest interaction.

Qualifications and Skills

• 0-1 years of experience in a barista or similar customer service role.
• Demonstrated attention to detail in beverage preparation and presentation.
• Ability to interact warmly and knowledgeably with guests.
• Strong organizational skills to maintain a clean and stocked workstation.
• Basic understanding of POS systems for order and payment processing.
• Commitment to upholding food safety and hygiene standards.

Physical Demands of the Role

This role requires the ability to endure various physical movements throughout work areas, including moving safely in uneven terrain or confined spaces. The Barista will be active, constantly moving, or may experience prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer throughout the work shift. It involves medium work, occasionally exerting up to 20kg of force, frequently 10kg, and constantly moving objects up to 5kg. Occasional lifting and/or moving of up to 15kg may also be required.
