About the Design Manager Role at AtkinsRéalis

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Design Manager to oversee the design aspects of building construction projects from inception through to completion. This full-time position requires a seasoned professional to ensure designs meet quality, budget, and schedule requirements, necessitating close collaboration with various project stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

The Design Manager will be instrumental in leading and coordinating all design activities for infrastructure projects. This includes:

  • Reviewing and validating architectural, structural, MEP, and specialist designs to ensure adherence to codes, regulations, and project specifications.
  • Developing and maintaining the project design program, ensuring alignment with procurement and construction timelines.
  • Managing the design team, comprising both internal staff and external consultants.
  • Conducting regular design reviews and clash detection to ensure interdisciplinary integration.
  • Liaising with clients, authorities, and stakeholders to secure necessary approvals and permits.
  • Providing technical input during tendering and construction phases, addressing design-related issues.
  • Monitoring design changes, assessing their impact, and managing associated risks and opportunities.
  • Ensuring designs are buildable, cost-effective, and align with sustainability and safety objectives.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Candidates for this role should possess the following qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in design management, specifically on infrastructure projects.
  • A strong understanding of building codes, construction methodologies, and interdisciplinary coordination.
  • Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and other BIM tools, as well as project management software.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership capabilities.
