About the Engineering Role
Sheraton Hotels & Resorts is seeking an experienced Engineering professional for a full-time position in Medina, Al-Madinah Al-Munawarah. This role requires a strong understanding of property maintenance and overall responsibility for the upkeep of multiple buildings, grounds, and the physical plant, with a focus on safety, security, and asset protection. The position involves managing budgets, capital expenditure projects, preventative maintenance, and energy conservation to meet and exceed guest and employee expectations while optimizing financial performance and ensuring compliance with standards and regulatory requirements. The role also includes leading the emergency response team for all facility-related issues.
Key Responsibilities
The Engineering professional will oversee and manage the physical plant, including equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, and electrical systems, in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures. This includes administering service contracts, ensuring the fire crew is fully trained on all procedures and equipment, and coaching the engineering leadership team to effectively manage controllable expenses such as wages, utilities, supplies, and vendor agreements. The role involves developing and implementing an engineering operating strategy aligned with the property's business objectives, managing and controlling heat, light, and power consumption, and ensuring the integration of departmental goals into unit-level game plans. A significant part of the role includes overseeing the execution of long-term preventative maintenance and asset protection plans, reviewing financial reports to monitor performance against budget, and proactively addressing potential areas of concern with proposed solutions. Communication of departmental goals and supervision of construction projects to ensure timely and within-budget completion are also key duties.
Maintaining Standards and Compliance
This position is responsible for ensuring strict compliance with all state, local, and federal regulations. This includes maintaining property life safety systems, such as firefighting equipment, sprinkler systems, and alarm systems, and ensuring that all building and equipment licenses, permits, and certifications are current for each unit. The role also ensures that property policies are administered fairly and consistently across the engineering operations.
Financial Management and Profitability
The Engineering professional will manage operational areas against budget by reviewing operating statements, budget worksheets, and payroll progress reports. This includes monitoring and managing the payroll function and controlling departmental expenses to achieve or exceed budgeted goals. Participation in the development of capital expenditure goals and management of associated projects is required. The role involves preparing weekly and period-end P&L critiques, understanding the impact of departmental operations on overall property financial goals, and educating staff on relevant financial details. Review and management of controllable expenses, including utilities, supplies, and service agreements, are integral to this function.
Human Resources and Team Leadership
Ensuring employees are treated fairly and equitably is a core responsibility. This includes ensuring that disciplinary procedures and documentation are completed according to Standard and Local Operating Procedures and supporting the Peer Review Process. The role requires utilizing employee feedback and an "open door" policy to promptly identify and address employee concerns. Celebrating successes through public recognition of team members' contributions is encouraged. Resolving guest problems and complaints, and bringing necessary issues to the attention of Human Resources, are also key duties. Regular, ongoing communication within the engineering operation is essential to convey daily activities, set expectations, and foster awareness of business objectives.
Qualifications and Experience
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED along with 6 years of experience in engineering and maintenance or a related professional area. Technical training in HVAC-R, Electrical, or Plumbing is required. Alternatively, a 2-year degree from an accredited university in Building and Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, or a related major, combined with 4 years of experience in engineering and maintenance or a related professional area, and technical training in HVAC-R, Electrical, or Plumbing, will be considered.
