About the Role
Sheraton Hotels & Resorts is seeking a Director of Finance & Accounting to lead financial operations for its property in Medina, located in the Central Area. This full-time position requires a strategic financial business leader who will champion and implement property-wide strategies to meet and exceed brand and customer expectations, while maximizing return on investment.
Strategic Financial Leadership
The Director of Finance & Accounting serves as the property's strategic financial business leader. This role involves developing and implementing property-wide strategies that deliver products and services to meet or exceed the needs and expectations of the brand's target customer and employees. The position provides the financial expertise necessary for the successful implementation of brand service strategies and initiatives, with a focus on maximizing return on investment. A key responsibility is creating and executing a business plan aligned with the property and brand's business strategy, focusing on financial and accounting activities and achieving desirable financial results.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop strategies to improve profit, including cost-benefit analysis and exploration of new business opportunities.
- Analyze financial information, forecast sales against expenses, and create annual budget plans.
- Compile and monitor actual sales against projected sales, and analyze variances between actual and forecasted wages for improved budget planning.
- Identify underlying principles and facts within data by breaking down information.
- Develop and implement new business plans creatively and practically.
- Create the annual operating budget for the property and provide analytical support during budget reviews to identify cost-saving and productivity opportunities.
- Implement appropriate controls to manage business risks and ensure a strong accounting and operational control environment to safeguard assets and improve operations and profitability.
- Analyze financial data and market trends, and lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive annual business plan aligned with company and brand strategy.
- Provide ongoing analytical support by monitoring operating department sales and produce accurate forecasts to enable operational adjustments.
- Utilize interpersonal and communication skills to lead, influence, and encourage others, advocating for sound financial/business decisions and leading by example.
- Communicate strategic goals and priorities clearly to subordinates and leverage leadership skills to influence the executive team and property strategies.
- Oversee internal, external, and regulatory audit processes, and provide leadership by assigning clear accountability and appropriate authority.
- Conduct annual performance appraisals with direct reports.
- Attend meetings with owners, understand their priorities, and communicate financial concepts clearly to drive desired behaviors.
- Advise the General Manager and executive committee on operating and financial issues, and manage communication with owners effectively.
- Manage property working capital and cash flow in accordance with brand SOPs and owner requirements.
- Facilitate critique meetings to review information with the management team.
- Ensure accurate documentation of Profits and Losses, monitor and ensure taxes are current, and submit reports in a timely manner.
- Develop and support the achievement of performance, budget, and team goals, and improve profit growth in operating departments.
- Review audit issues to ensure accuracy and generate accurate and timely reports and presentations.
- Reconcile balance sheets to ensure account balances are supported by appropriate documentation and ensure the P&L is accurate.
- Ensure compliance with management contracts, reporting requirements, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Local Standard Operating Procedures (LSOPs).
- Ensure team members are cross-trained, property policies are administered fairly, and new hires receive appropriate orientation and training.
- Create development plans for team members based on individual strengths and career aspirations, and participate in hiring activities.
Qualifications and Experience
Candidates should possess a 4-year bachelor's degree in Finance and Accounting or a related major, with a minimum of 2 years of experience in finance, accounting, or a related professional area. Alternatively, a Master's degree in Finance and Accounting or a related major with no work experience requirement will be considered.
Work Environment
This is a full-time position based in Medina, within the Central Area. The role operates within the framework of Sheraton Hotels & Resorts.
