About the Role

Saudi Aramco is seeking an Intellectual Property Counsel to join its Intellectual Property Law Department (IPLD) within the Law Organization. This full-time position involves providing company-wide legal support for all IP-related matters. The role requires a minimum of 10 years of experience.

Departmental Context

The IPLD is responsible for legal support across Saudi Aramco concerning intellectual property, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, IP-related agreements, and IP education and counseling. The Intellectual Property Counsel will perform and direct legal activities within the department, assisting the General Counsel, Associate General Counsel, and General Attorneys in delivering legal services to Aramco, its partners, and affiliates. This role involves close collaboration with internal clients and inventors to support the company's diverse technologies and scientific disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage outside counsel for the preparation and prosecution of patent applications.
  • Oversee patent portfolio management.
  • Provide legal counsel to clients on intellectual property matters.
  • Deliver IP education to clients on various IP-related topics.
  • Offer legal advice regarding patent portfolio strategies.
  • Draft and negotiate research and development agreements and IP licenses.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A Juris Doctorate degree or equivalent.
  • Current admission to general practice before the highest court of the state or country of citizenship or residency.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience working for a law firm or major corporation.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as in-house counsel.
  • Demonstrable experience in preparing and prosecuting patent applications.
  • Familiarity with the Patent Cooperation Treaty and other foreign prosecution authorities.
  • Experience with other areas of intellectual property, including trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating IP agreements, including research collaboration and IP license agreements.
  • Experience in the oil and/or chemical industry is considered a plus.
