About the Mechanical Engineer Role at SABIC

SABIC is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for a full-time position in Al Jubail, Eastern region. This role focuses on providing maintenance engineering expertise to ensure the safe, reliable, and cost-effective performance of plant assets within the Saudi Kayan operations. The successful candidate will contribute to optimizing equipment maintenance strategies and driving reliability improvement initiatives.

Purpose of the Position

The primary purpose of this role is to enhance equipment availability and integrity by developing and optimizing maintenance strategies, leading root cause analyses for significant issues, and implementing reliability improvement plans. The Engineer will support maintenance planning, turnaround readiness, and continuous improvement efforts, ensuring strict compliance with EHSS policies, SHEM standards, SABIC Engineering Standards, and corporate procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure all maintenance engineering activities comply with EHSS policies, SHEM standards, and regulatory requirements, including participation in incident investigations.
  • Analyze equipment performance data, failure history, and condition-monitoring results to identify and resolve chronic issues, implementing reliability improvement plans.
  • Establish, review, and continuously optimize equipment maintenance strategies based on criticality and risk, maintaining and updating PM plans and condition-monitoring routines in SAP PM.
  • Provide engineering support for diagnosing and resolving equipment failures, leading root cause analyses for significant issues, and defining preventive actions.
  • Support planning and scheduling teams with accurate job scopes, technical specifications, and material requirements, contributing to shutdown and turnaround preparation.
  • Optimize spare-parts requirements, bills of materials, and stocking strategies, supporting obsolescence management and identifying cost-saving initiatives.
  • Identify and implement improvements in maintenance work processes, engineering practices, and data quality, supporting the adoption of digital tools and advanced analytics.
  • Ensure maintenance engineering deliverables comply with SABIC Engineering Standards, OEM requirements, and corporate procedures, maintaining accurate equipment history and documentation in SAP.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering or equivalent.
  • Saudi Council of Engineers registration is required.
  • Minimum of 2 to 5 years’ experience in maintenance or reliability engineering within the petrochemical, chemical, or process industry, preferably in an operating plant environment.
  • Preferred exposure to maintenance execution, turnaround activities, and field coordination of technicians or contractor crews.

Required Skills and Knowledge

  • Experience in using engineering drawings, system manuals, and maintenance documentation for effective planning and execution.
  • Proficiency in SAP (PM module) and Microsoft Office for maintenance management, tracking, and reporting.
  • Working knowledge of reliability engineering tools and methodologies, including predictive and condition-based maintenance techniques.
  • Strong knowledge of petrochemical plant safety requirements, protocols, and SHEM standards applicable to maintenance activities, with a goal-oriented approach to safe work practices, risk management, and environmental safety.
  • General understanding of quality requirements relevant to maintenance processes.
  • Knowledge of SABIC Engineering Standards, OEM requirements, and their interpretation in maintenance execution.
  • Analytical, methodical, and open-minded approach to problem-solving in maintenance challenges.
  • Ability to interpret and apply systems logic, process flow charts, and equipment schematics to maintenance work.

This full-time position is based in Al Jubail, Eastern region, supporting SABIC's operations.
