About the Role

Kempinski Hotels is seeking a Barista to join its full-time team in Al Khobar, Eastern region. This role involves assisting the Beverage Manager in coordinating all phases of restaurant, outlets, bars, and banquet beverage operations within the Hotel. The Barista is responsible for daily coordination, program planning, and quality control, ensuring guests receive a unique and memorable coffee experience while upholding the Hotel's service standards and reputation.

Core Coffee Expertise

  • Prepare a variety of coffee drinks, including perfect espresso/coffee shots, cappuccinos, and lattes.
  • Demonstrate expertise in various espresso machines and their proper use for extraction.
  • Possess extensive knowledge of coffee, including main growing regions, taste profiles, processing methods, and differences between premium gourmet coffees.
  • Understand the basic differences between Robusta and Arabica coffee beans.
  • Be proficient in grinding and roasting coffee, specifically for espresso preparation.
  • Serve coffee drinks, tea, other beverages, and potentially food items from the front counter area.
  • Maintain a neat workplace, spotless brewing equipment, and a professional physical appearance.
  • Ensure consistent product quality and provide excellent service.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Treat all team members fairly and with respect, setting high standards for appropriate team behavior.
  • Create a positive team atmosphere and provide regular feedback and coaching.
  • Support the division training team as a teacher and participate in training update meetings.
  • Identify skill gaps within beverage operations and customize learning solutions.
  • Assist in position-specific training, evaluate recipe inconsistencies, and coach on proper procedures.
  • Organize and conduct monthly training classes covering service and overall product knowledge.
  • Oversee new trainees and conduct end-of-training certification.
  • Directly responsible for training staff in all coffee service aspects.
  • Implement capability building through cross-training initiatives.
  • Discipline personnel when required and assist with departmental scheduling.

Guest Experience and Service Excellence

  • Dedicated to providing customers with a great coffee experience to ensure their return.
  • Prioritize the customer, delivering a positive experience with coffee creations.
  • Handle irate customers with a friendly and calm attitude.
  • Show enthusiasm towards guests within the restaurant and bars.
  • Seek, listen, and respond to guest feedback, coaching the team to exceed guest expectations.
  • Minimize the number of customer complaints.

Operational and Administrative Duties

  • Assist the Beverage Manager in program planning and quality control.
  • Prioritize tasks effectively for efficiency and adapt to changing work demands.
  • Take ownership of issues or tasks and provide detailed updates to the Beverage Manager.
  • Identify restaurant/bar problems through reports and ideate/execute resolutions.
  • Assist in planning regular and special event menus, preparing specialty coffee menus, and pairing coffee with food selections.
  • Present recipe selections for review four times annually and evaluate new products with the Beverage Manager.
  • Stock service and lobby bars as needed, and conduct monthly alcohol and mixer inventory reconciliation.
  • Maintain records of staff and operating costs, prepare payroll, and monitor bookkeeping.
  • Meet with sales representatives to order supplies (glassware, utensils, cleaning items).
  • Arrange for maintenance and repair of equipment and other services.
  • Ensure new products are executed properly following roll-out.
  • Forecast restaurant and bar needs effectively.
  • Delegate and follow up effectively on tasks.
  • Attend and participate in weekly F&B and Department Head meetings.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in POS software, inventory software, and guest satisfaction tracking software.
  • Assure completion of requisitions, weekly schedules, and shift duties.
  • Maintain labor costs and complete monthly inventory.
  • Participate in overall Hotel maintenance and cleanliness, reporting any deficiencies in equipment and facilities.
  • Independently manage and be responsible for high-value coffee and equipment.
  • Manage multiple outlet coffee inventory and par levels.
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) based on extensive knowledge and experience.
  • Work with procurement for all necessary operational items.
  • Ensure a professional attitude and proper business attire, meeting company appearance and uniform standards.
  • Participate in P&L monthly meetings and engage in personal development and growth.
  • Minimize Workmen's Compensation claims.

Qualifications and Special Conditions

  • 0-1 year of relevant experience is required.
  • Must have flexible availability due to the needs of VIP guests.
  • Required to be present to serve VIPs during operations.
