Job Description

About the Role

ADES Holding Company is seeking a Senior Electrician to join their team in Al Khobar. This full-time role is central to maintaining the operational efficiency of drilling activities by ensuring the reliability and safety of all electrical equipment and systems. The Senior Electrician will lead the electrical crew, manage tool utilization, and uphold stringent safety standards for personnel, the environment, and equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform planned preventive maintenance, repair, and servicing of all electrical equipment and systems essential to drilling operations.
  • Diagnose failures and malfunctions in electrical equipment and systems, utilizing diagnostic tools, equipment manuals, and technical documentation to implement effective solutions and minimize downtime.
  • Study and interpret electrical schematics and logic diagrams to gather data, understand performance trends, and resolve complex issues.
  • Maintain the reliability and integrity of rig power generation and distribution equipment, including generators, engine control units, SCRs, VFDs, UPSs, and transformers.
  • Oversee the maintenance, repair, and servicing of various electrical components and systems on the rig, such as HVAC systems, communication systems, consoles & control panels, DC and AC drilling motors & auxiliaries, and pump motors.
  • Verify and inspect third-party equipment and installations, ensuring new equipment installations on the drilling unit are managed by an MOC Synergi case where appropriate.
  • Conduct and interpret power calculations, power factor, insulation tests, and positive relay tests to verify proper equipment operation per regulatory and company standards.
  • Plan and coordinate with the OIM/RMS and other departments for equipment security and safety inspections prior to any operations or major activities, such as rig moves or BOP running and retrieving.
  • Ensure adherence to appropriate electrical requirements of statutory and regulatory bodies, including the classification society, and maintain accurate records.
  • Manage inventory of spare parts, consumables, and supplies for electrical equipment, coordinating with procurement and logistics for timely delivery and compliance with class & certification requirements.
  • Ensure switch rooms, VFD, or SCR rooms are free of flammable materials, not used for storage, and contain maintained and accessible electric shock recovery kits, restricting access to technical personnel where possible.
  • Carry out duties related to preparing the rig for towing, maintaining the integrity and reliability of electrical systems and equipment before, during, and after rig moves.
  • Promote and maintain effective working relationships with other departments, third-party personnel, and Client Representatives, responding to client requests after obtaining adequate management approval.
  • Maintain proper logs and records of all electrical maintenance activities, equipment inspections, and repairs, preparing accurate and timely reports including daily equipment status, incident reports, and Job Safety Analyses for hazardous activities.
  • Ensure permit-to-work and isolation systems are followed and applied, and supply information to assist in the development of maintenance and repair budgets.
  • Provide clear instructions, mentor, develop, and train the electrical team, identifying opportunities for skill and career advancement and supporting their professional growth.
  • Ensure the team receives necessary training through on-the-job training and participation in safety drills and exercises, actively supporting ADES’s Competency Assurance Program.
  • Evaluate team performance on a constant and fair feedback basis, identify areas for improvement, and drive the ADVANCE process to formalize a performance management culture.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Formal training as an electrician in the form of a multi-year apprenticeship or training program is required.
  • Minimum of five (5) to ten (10) years of working experience in the electrical field within drilling and workover operations, with demonstrable supervisory skills.
  • Working experience on offshore rigs is preferred.
  • Certifications as per the ADES Training Matrix.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong situation awareness, communication, and teamwork abilities.
  • Excellent detail orientation and problem-solving skills.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Regularly perform climbing (stairs, ladders), bending, twisting, and standing.
  • Ability to work outdoors under various extreme weather conditions (noise, humidity, cold, heat).
  • Capability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Flexibility to work day or night shifts, with a minimum of 12 hours per shift.
