About the Role

Siemens Energy is seeking a Compressor Commissioning and Controls Engineer for a full-time position based in Dammam, Eastern Region. This role involves the global commissioning and servicing of Siemens Energy, Dresser, and non-OEM compressors and auxiliary equipment. The engineer will act as a key liaison between customers and the company, collaborating with management, sales, and technical support to ensure service integrity, with a focus on turbo compressors and accountability for all commissioning and controls activities during installation and overhaul.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead the commissioning of compressors, control systems, and auxiliary systems, ensuring adherence to OEM specifications and quality standards.
  • Oversee and troubleshoot control systems to ensure efficient operation and effective problem-solving.
  • Interpret P&ID, electrical and controls documentation, and OEM installation instructions to verify accurate installation and function.
  • Conduct troubleshooting and root cause analyses, providing detailed technical reports to clients.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports following service outages, documenting findings, actions taken, and recommendations.
  • Maintain safety and foster a Zero-harm culture by adhering to all company and customer EHS policies.
  • Engage professionally with clients to ensure satisfaction, protect company interests, and identify opportunities for additional business.

Technical Expertise and Experience

The role requires a minimum of 5-7 years of directly related experience in the commissioning of turbo compressor packages and related equipment. Essential technical expertise includes:

  • Working knowledge of compressor commissioning and associated auxiliary systems, including Dry Gas Seal systems, MCCs, electrical motors, heaters, fans, variable/frequency converters, control panels, and instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with commissioning activities such as loop testing, instrument calibration, valve checks, lube oil flushing, surge control and mapping, troubleshooting, and startup execution.
  • Ability to apply a broad, cross-disciplinary understanding of mechanical, instrument, electrical, and control systems.
  • Capability to interface with discipline specialists to resolve technical issues.
  • Working knowledge of industrial control systems including Siemens (S7, PCS 7, T3000), Allen-Bradley, Schneider Electric (Triconex), and Vibration System Commissioning (Bently Nevada 3500).
  • Hands-on involvement in commissioning activities such as basic configuration checks, loop testing, troubleshooting, and system verification.
  • Familiarity with Siemens Energy and Dresser Rand compressors and auxiliary systems.
  • Experience with new unit and service compressor commissioning, as well as equipment modification and upgrades.

Process, Logic, and Analytical Skills

A strong understanding of compressor logics and process knowledge is necessary for efficient commissioning and troubleshooting. The role demands the ability to conduct thorough root cause analyses, communicate progress, schedules, and recommendations to clients, and prepare detailed technical reports. The engineer will be experienced in leading teams for commissioning and optimization, providing clear directions to meet service requirements.

Work Conditions and Travel

This role requires extensive travel for assignments, both domestically, regionally, and internationally, adapting to various conditions including offshore environments. Duties may be performed on day or night shifts under challenging conditions such as heat, cold, and noise, with the ability to work weekends and holidays. The candidate must be eligible for offshore work and pass necessary medical examinations. A practical, hands-on approach with a willingness to learn and adapt to different control systems is essential.

Educational and Commercial Requirements

An engineering degree with equivalent years of experience is required. Basic commercial knowledge is needed to comprehend contract work and identify opportunities for additional funding. The role involves spending most of the work time at customer sites, domestically and internationally. Physical requirements include the ability to climb ladders, work around machinery, and evacuate work areas in emergencies, as well as standing for extended periods and walking long distances.
