About the Role

ENGIE SOLUTIONS MIDDLE EAST is seeking a Data Center Mechanical Engineer for a full-time position in Dammam. This role involves the daily monitoring and planned maintenance of critical mechanical infrastructure within a data center environment, ensuring operational continuity and adherence to established procedures.

Core Responsibilities

The Mechanical Engineer will perform ongoing monitoring of the Building Management System (BMS) and execute planned maintenance activities for all mechanical infrastructure equipment. A key responsibility includes overseeing the timely completion of work orders generated from the CAFM system. This role requires strict adherence to facility guidelines, procedures, and vendor operation manuals for all maintenance tasks.

  • Develop Method of Procedures (MoPs) for preventive maintenance activities based on vendor manuals.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs) during maintenance.
  • Execute and complete work orders, verify tasks performed by on-site technicians, and witness major maintenance performed by vendors.
  • Verify isolation, shutdown, startup, emergency shutdown, and restoration procedures for all data center facility infrastructure equipment.
  • Conduct daily walk-rounds, monitor the BMS, and clear critical and minor alarms.
  • Perform periodic testing on engine generators.
  • Manage switching and redundancy of rotating equipment.
  • Respond to unplanned events and emergency scenarios to sustain data center operations.
  • Escalate emergency failures and alarms to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor and vendors.
  • Maintain tools in good condition and ensure calibration.
  • Manage and update spare parts and consumables inventories.
  • Report any required changes to executed procedures in work orders upon completion.
  • Advise on enhancements to SOPs, EOPs, and MoPs through formal change requests.
  • Execute required facility changes, such as setpoint adjustments and labeling.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. A strong understanding of data center electrical and mechanical systems, including transformers, generators, UPS, chillers, CRAHs, and pumps, is essential. Familiarity with engineering design calculations, principles, codes, and standards for both mechanical and electrical disciplines is required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) is also necessary.

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in a Data Center environment.
  • Experience with MEP equipment specifications, performance requirements, operating conditions, startup/shutdown, LOTO, and isolation procedures.
  • Proven experience in BMS monitoring and alarm management.
  • Thorough knowledge of Health & Safety guidelines, particularly for operating energized equipment.

Required Skills and Abilities

The role demands the ability to address and resolve issues or incidents in the data center at any time. Strong diagnostic skills are needed to identify the root cause of equipment failures. Adaptability and the capacity to handle multiple tasks simultaneously are crucial. The engineer must be able to provide direction to technicians and work a rotational on-call shift. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary for accurate reporting and collaboration with supervisors and vendors.
