About the Role

Cundall is seeking an experienced and client-focused Associate with mechanical engineering expertise to join their data centre team in Melbourne. This full-time position offers the opportunity to play a leading role in the successful delivery of design solutions for significant global data centre projects.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Leading the mechanical design and delivery for hyperscale and enterprise-level data centres.
  • Developing mechanical system designs, including HVAC, chilled water, direct-to-chip immersive cooling, and ventilation systems.
  • Producing and reviewing mechanical schematics, reports, specifications, and equipment layouts.
  • Coordinating with other disciplines to ensure integrated and efficient design solutions.
  • Providing strategic input on design direction, energy efficiency, and sustainability measures, such as waste heat recovery and free cooling.
  • Participating in site inspections, technical meetings, commissioning activities, and post-occupancy reviews.

Management and Client Engagement

This role involves:

  • Managing and mentoring a team of mechanical engineers, focusing on design quality, performance, and professional development.
  • Serving as a primary point of contact for clients, fostering long-term relationships and encouraging repeat business.
  • Reviewing and approving designs to ensure adherence to relevant standards, regulations, and client specifications.
  • Contributing to internal project management processes, including fee tracking, progress monitoring, and programme delivery.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should possess:

  • Chartered Engineer status, with a degree in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering.
  • Significant experience in a consulting engineering role, preferably within the data centre sector.
  • A demonstrated ability to manage multiple medium to large-scale projects and less senior engineers, consistently meeting and exceeding client expectations.
  • Proven experience in producing schematic diagrams, preparing specifications and project reports, conducting site inspections and surveys, developing detailed designs, and leading project meetings.
  • The capability to support project teams in designing and developing detailed and accurate solutions.

Work Environment

This is a full-time position based in Cundall's Melbourne office, focusing on the data centre sector. The role requires close collaboration within a multidisciplinary team.
