About the Planning Engineer Role

Koch Engineered Solutions (KES) is seeking a Planning Engineer to join its team in the Eastern Province, specifically Dammam. This full-time role will support construction and site services projects across the Middle East, focusing on effective planning, scheduling, cost control, and ensuring timely project delivery. The position involves close coordination with various project stakeholders to monitor progress and support informed decision-making.

Role Responsibilities

The Planning Engineer will be instrumental in supporting KES Construction/Services operations. Key duties include:

  • Developing, maintaining, and updating project schedules using Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project.
  • Preparing various schedule types, including baseline, look-ahead, recovery, resource-loaded, and cost-loaded schedules.
  • Monitoring project progress, analyzing critical paths, identifying schedule risks, and proposing mitigation or recovery actions.
  • Coordinating schedule inputs from engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, subcontractors, and site teams.
  • Preparing progress reports, dashboards, schedule narratives, and project status updates for management and clients.
  • Supporting tendering, estimation, change orders, claims, extensions of time, and contract variation analysis.
  • Reviewing and managing construction planning documents such as method statements, mobilization plans, resource plans, and project schedules.
  • Tracking project costs, variations, timesheets, invoices, and payment-related information.
  • Collaborating with internal teams, subcontractors, vendors, and clients to ensure safe, efficient, and timely project execution.

Pre-Contract and Estimating Support

This role also encompasses pre-contract activities and estimating support, including:

  • Attending pre-contract clarification meetings and supporting tender follow-up.
  • Preparing construction estimates, schedules, price breakdowns, and subcontractor RFQs.
  • Reviewing third-party bids and assisting in technical, commercial, and schedule evaluations.
  • Assessing risks, recommending contingencies, and identifying proposal optimization opportunities.
  • Maintaining estimate records, work plans, and fostering relationships with vendors, subcontractors, clients, and internal teams.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates for this position should possess the following qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering discipline is preferred.
  • Experience in project planning, scheduling, and construction cost estimation, preferably within the Oil & Gas sector.
  • Proficiency in project controls software, including Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong communication, coordination, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Arabic.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities, work under pressure, and coordinate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Willingness to travel up to 40% for project-related activities.

Preferred Certifications

Candidates holding PMI-SP, PSP, PMP, or equivalent certifications will be considered favorably.

Work Location and Type

This role is primarily office-based in Dammam, Eastern Province. Periodic on-site presence at project locations across the Middle East will be required. The position is full-time.
