About the Role

Nesma Infrastructure & Technology is seeking a Project Manager (HV EHV) Substations to join their team in Dammam, Eastern Province. This full-time position involves leading the delivery of complex power transmission projects, specifically focusing on High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) systems.

Role Overview

The Project Manager will be responsible for the comprehensive management and execution of HVDC projects, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations, technical specifications, and international standards. This role requires a strong focus on the entire project lifecycle, from planning and engineering through to commissioning, alongside effective stakeholder engagement and technical oversight within the power transmission sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the overall delivery of HVDC projects in compliance with contractual obligations, specifications, and international standards.
  • Develop and implement project execution strategies, schedules, and budgets.
  • Oversee the full project cycle, including planning, engineering, procurement, logistics, site installation, testing, and commissioning of HVDC systems.
  • Ensure the integration of converter stations, substations, control & protection systems, and transmission lines.
  • Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Serve as the primary interface with clients (SEC) and consultants on all project matters, managing relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and OEMs.
  • Conduct progress review meetings, ensuring transparent reporting and effective communication with stakeholders.
  • Review and approve engineering deliverables, technical submittals, and method statements related to HVDC systems.
  • Monitor project quality, ensuring compliance with IEC, IEEE, and client standards.
  • Support and guide testing and commissioning activities for HVDC systems, including bipole testing, control system integration, and energization procedures.
  • Control project budget, cash flow, and resource allocation.
  • Review claims, variations, and contractual correspondence, ensuring timely project invoicing and payments.
  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams (engineering, construction, HSE, QA/QC, commissioning), coaching and mentoring site engineers, package managers, and support staff.
  • Foster a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement, ensuring strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations and client-specific requirements.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 12–18 years of experience in power transmission projects, with at least 5–8 years specifically in HVDC projects.
  • Strong knowledge of HVDC systems, including converter stations, valve halls, transformers, control & protection systems, and DC transmission lines.
  • Proven track record of managing large EPC projects in the energy/power sector.
  • Familiarity with international standards (IEC, IEEE, CIGRÉ) and client standards (SEC).
  • Excellent project management, contractual, and leadership skills.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills in English.
