About the Quality Engineer Role
Unilever is seeking a Quality Engineer to join its team in Jeddah or Makkah, Saudi Arabia. This full-time role is designed for professionals with 0-1 years of experience. The primary responsibility involves operational quality management of manufacturing processes, from material handling to batch making, and ensuring Finished Good Quality Assurance. The objective is to ensure the dispatch of 100% consumer-acceptable quality products from the factory, supported by digitalization and continuous improvement initiatives (UMS).
Core Responsibilities
The Quality Engineer will manage operational quality, support continuous improvement, and contribute to team development. Key responsibilities include:
- Develop, lead, and drive optimization and Kaizen initiatives related to plant and quality losses.
- Maintain, develop, and utilize operational knowledge of digital support systems for Quality applications.
- Define Statistical Process Control methods for setting targets and limits in operational areas.
- Support innovation funnel activities within the supply chain, collaborating with internal and external customers.
- Manage and ensure compliance with the quality management system through communication, training, and internal/external audits.
- Lead data collection, analysis, and assignment to standard Quality loss trees for operational KPI reporting.
- Utilize SAP QM and Unilever specifications, including SAP PLM & ECC, and support verification of their use for quality purposes.
- Track and trend consumer complaint data to ensure focused improvement within identified gaps.
- Interpret, apply, and enforce all company policies, programs, regulations, and safety/Environmental rules, reporting results, issues, and improvements.
- Lead improvements in packaging materials, reducing E-incidents and Quality downtimes in production lines.
- Ensure that all making and packing areas comply with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and HACCP requirements.
- Identify and develop Quality gate controls (Q points / CCPs) at every critical stage of operations, collaborating with manufacturing and logistics teams.
- Ensure timely execution of Quality-related projects by following up with project owners.
- Support the implementation and verification of procedures to control non-conforming materials and products.
- Support and participate in structured quality improvement activities related to customer/consumer issues and PQS gaps.
- Support implementation and ongoing verification of category/technology GMP as applicable to the site.
- Support implementing and assessing ongoing compliance to the in-take control program for received materials and packaging.
- Lead PQS/DSI improvement on the shop floor with Quality analysts, Process Engineers, and Operators regarding monitoring, compliance, reporting, and sharing.
- Lead investigations and action implementation for complaints received from the market and manufacturing quality incidents from production lines.
- Monitor and improve KPI and KAI Performance of the department.
- Implement and verify the site calibration and maintenance program for inspection, measuring, and testing equipment.
- Coordinate the performance of lab equipment capability studies.
- Develop robust processes and procedures to eliminate Quality-related defects in production lines and process making areas.
- Implement SPC (Six Sigma approach), Product/Process parameter, and PFMEA in making and finishing areas, identifying and eliminating sporadic & chronic losses.
- Lead digitalization within the QA Department.
- Co-lead Quality Pillar activities in UMS and provide technical expertise to the factory for troubleshooting quality issues.
- Facilitate UMS activities with QM members, coordinating with PEs and Technical teams to ensure implementation of Quality Maintenance on Finishing Lines & Making Operations.
- Participate and engage with the team in generating OPLs and KAIZENS for the Quality Pillar.
- Ensure and maintain 5S condition in the department (including own workplace) and carry out 5S inspections for quality and process laboratories.
- Provide necessary trainings (on-job and classroom sessions) and development needs for Quality Technicians and Operators in Quality, QM, and SPC.
- Develop the Quality team on inspections, analysis, decision making, reporting, communication, quality, and consumer understanding to enhance their knowledge and skills.
- Uplift quality engagement of employees within the factory and work closely with PEs and Operators to develop a Quality Culture and consumer mindset.
- Maintain the highest quality standards, ensure safe working practices, and care for the environment through total compliance with Health, Safety & Environment, Quality and Consumer Safety, UMS, and Customer Service guidelines.
Qualifications and Experience
- An Engineering degree, with a preference for Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
- 0-1 years of relevant professional experience.
- Fluent in both spoken and written Arabic and English.
Required Skills and Attributes
- A logical and methodical approach to work.
- Good knowledge of UMS, SPC, and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Strong analytical skills combined with computer proficiency.
- Ability to work effectively as a team player with good communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to provide training.
