Senior Museum Collections Manager

About the Role

Naseej is seeking a Senior Museum Collections Manager for a contract assignment in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This role involves leading collections management activities and coordinating with various stakeholders to ensure the proper care and conservation of museum collections. The assignment has a duration of six months and requires the manager to be based at the museum location for the full period.

Role Context

The Senior Museum Collections Manager will be responsible for overseeing practical collections work and documentation. While specialist conservators will perform conservation assessments and treatments, this role focuses on the coordination and management aspects, ensuring seamless operations and accurate record-keeping for the museum's collection.

Key Responsibilities

• Review inventories, object identifiers, documentation, and physical locations; select and prioritize objects in coordination with museum representatives and conservators.
• Maintain an object register that covers locations, condition assessment status, conservation progress, and outstanding actions.
• Coordinate access and readiness for surveys and conservation work, ensuring all records, photographs, and supporting documentation are complete and accurate.
• Coordinate object movement, packing, unpacking, and handovers with art handlers and conservators, maintaining traceable records throughout.
• Monitor storage and handling practices, identify potential collections care risks, and coordinate appropriate actions with specialists.
• Coordinate approved specialist services in line with the project schedule and collections care requirements, reporting on progress, risks, gaps, and necessary decisions.
• Prepare final collections records, handover documentation, and recommendations for ongoing care of the collections.

Experience and Work Type

Candidates should possess 5-10 years of relevant experience in museum collections management. This is a contract position requiring full-time presence at the museum location in Jeddah for the entire six-month duration.

Assignment Location

The assignment is based in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The selected candidate must be prepared to reside at the museum location for the full six-month contract period.
