Role Overview: General Accountant

The General Accountant is responsible for managing daily accounting operations and ensuring the accuracy and completeness of financial records for Midana Exploration Company and its related entities in Saudi Arabia. This full-time role, based in Jeddah, Makkah, Saudi Arabia, involves general ledger accounting, managing payables and receivables, banking, fixed assets, financial closing, and reporting. The General Accountant also supports budgeting, audit processes, and compliance with Saudi and international accounting, Zakat, tax, and regulatory requirements. The position requires 5-10 years of experience and reports to the Finance Manager/Financial Controller, providing essential financial information for decision-making and maintaining robust financial controls.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute daily accounting activities and ensure accurate and timely entry of financial data in Microsoft Dynamics 365 and other platforms.
• Maintain the General Ledger, including journal entries, trial balance, accruals, provisions, prepayments, reconciliations, and foreign currency adjustments.
• Complete bank reconciliations, monitor cash balances, employee advances, petty cash, and corporate cards, reporting material differences.
• Manage sales invoicing, revenue recognition, sales reporting, and ensure ZATCA VAT and e-invoicing compliance.
• Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities and support the preparation of financial statements and management reports.
• Maintain accounting records for fixed assets and inventory, monitoring exploration, project, license, capital, and operating costs.
• Review and reconcile Exploration Joint Venture accounting records, asset registers, and cash calls.
• Record and reconcile intercompany and related-party transactions, supporting transfer pricing documentation and Group reporting.
• Prepare VAT, Withholding Tax, Zakat, Corporate Income Tax, and e-invoicing data and returns, supporting ZATCA compliance.
• Prepare audit schedules, respond to audit queries, and maintain complete, organized financial records.
• Comply with finance policies, internal controls, and the authority matrix, reporting errors or financial risks.
• Manage Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, including invoices, reconciliations, collections, and preparing bank payments.
• Support the Finance Manager/Financial Controller in preparing budgets, forecasts, cash flow reports, and variance analysis.
• Record and reconcile payroll, employee benefits, GOSI, leave provisions, and end-of-service benefits.

Qualifications and Experience

• 5-10 years of experience in a general accounting role.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Dynamics 365 and other accounting, banking, or tax platforms.
• Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, payables, receivables, and financial reporting.
• Knowledge of Saudi and international accounting standards, Zakat, tax, and regulatory requirements.
• Ability to prepare audit schedules and support audit processes.

Work Environment and Reporting Structure

The General Accountant will be primarily based in MEC’s office in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Occasional travel to project sites and other locations within Saudi Arabia may be required. The role reports directly to the Finance Manager/Financial Controller and collaborates with the CFO, the broader Finance team, subsidiary finance teams, department heads, the MEC procurement team, Exploration Joint Venture finance teams, banks, customers, suppliers, auditors, tax advisors, and government authorities including ZATCA.
