About the Role
National Medical Care is seeking a Sr. Registrar Emergency Medicine to join our team in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. This full-time position involves providing comprehensive care to both inpatient and outpatient individuals within the Emergency Department, operating under the direct supervision of a Consultant or the Head of ER. The role requires maintaining a high level of professional performance in adherence to established medical ethics, hospital by-laws, and regulatory standards.
Core Responsibilities
- Provide patient care within the scope of professional competence and clinical privileges.
- Supervise the performance of assigned Emergency Room physicians within the unit.
- Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures relevant to the specialty, as per privileges.
- Assess and refer patients under medical care to appropriate medical facilities when necessary.
- Participate actively in the departmental on-call rota for patient care.
- Respond to emergencies, offering advice and direct participation as required by the specialty.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and legible medical records for all patients.
- Supervise the duties of assigned junior medical staff.
Quality, Ethics, and Professional Development
- Ensure superior quality of medical treatment, compassion, and understanding for every patient, in line with professional medical ethics and CBAHI / JCIA standards.
- Practice within clinically relevant and scientifically valid standards, guidelines, and criteria.
- Participate in the development and maintenance of medical contingency disaster plans and maintain the quality of the Emergency Room nurse triage system.
- Observe and uphold patient rights regarding security, confidentiality, and privacy.
- Provide leadership for performance improvement functions as part of the Departmental Quality Plan.
- Actively participate in Continued Medical Education (**** through hospital activities and national/international meetings.
- Engage in training programs for junior medical staff, nursing staff, and technicians.
- Continuously update medical knowledge and upgrade professional skills.
- Participate in assigned committee meetings, such as Quality Improvement and Infection Control.
- Abide by Department Policies and Procedures, hospital by-laws, Rules, and Regulations.
Patient and Family Education
The Senior Registrar is responsible for educating patients and their families according to their needs, implementing the patient/family education process as outlined in relevant policies, including documentation in medical records. This involves:
- Involving patients and families in the plan of care, respecting their goals and choices.
- Providing health promotion and teaching through methods appropriate to the patient’s developmental level, learning needs, readiness, ability to learn, language preference, culture, and specific situations.
- Allotting necessary time to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient education, ensuring appropriate documentation.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited medical school (MBBS) with completion of the required period of training.
- Possession of a Post Graduate / Master's degree or an equivalent qualification.
- Valid Certification of Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Advanced Life Support certification pertinent to the assigned area.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in the specialty after obtaining a Post Graduate Degree and being registered.
- Current valid license to practice medicine in the area of specialty.
- Registration with the Saudi Medical Council and/or a current license to practice medicine in Saudi Arabia as a Senior Registrar.
