About the Role

Amazon is seeking a Workplace, Health and Safety (WHS) Officer to join its team. This full-time position will be based in Jeddah and Makkah. The WHS Officer will partner with the Site Operations team to implement company safety policies and ensure adherence to all applicable local and regional regulations.

Role Objectives and Continuous Improvement

Leveraging lean principles and kaizens, the WHS Officer will lead continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing conditional and ergonomic risks within operational processes. The goal is to foster a safe and healthy working environment for all associates. Success in this role requires the ability to build trust with the Operations team and drive change through comprehensive risk assessments and safety data analysis.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide guidance and oversight to ensure compliance with all applicable Amazon WHS Standards and Policies.
• Measure site performance against safety policy requirements and develop plans to address identified deficiencies.
• Deliver projects to Operations on time and to the required quality standards.
• Analyze safety metrics and review incident trends to allocate resources effectively to areas with the highest safety risks.
• Ensure proper incident investigation and closure of corrective and preventive actions.
• Conduct frequent site safety audits to identify non-compliant equipment and processes.
• Implement solutions to eliminate risks and prevent injuries.
• Audit record-keeping practices to ensure alignment with global WHS standards and local regulations.
• Audit workplace organization and associate behaviors to ensure accuracy and consistency in training, auditing, and scoring methods.
• Lead and mentor safety associates within assigned facilities.
• Ensure site leadership and associates are trained and knowledgeable of their policy responsibilities.
• Audit the quality, delivery, and effectiveness of all required safety training.
• Manage site PPE inventory and coordinate with procurement teams to ensure PPE compliance.
• Collaborate with facility teams to ensure preventive maintenance of all fire protection and emergency equipment.
• Ensure basic fire fighting and first aid training requirements are met.

Communication and Training

The WHS Officer must be an effective communicator, delivering clear, concise, and consistent messages both verbally and in writing. This includes instructing and training Operations leaders on Amazon WHS policies and assisting key site stakeholders in integrating safety standards. The role involves identifying best practices and incorporating them into standards to continuously improve safety excellence.

Team Structure and Work Schedule

The WHS Officer will be part of the WHS team, reporting to the site WHS Manager. This role requires flexibility to work in shifts, including days and nights. A thorough understanding of local/regional regulations and company policy is essential.
